Welcome to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Newsletter
We have a lot of material in this month's newsletter that I believe you will find helpful and informational. October is the month to acknowledge crime prevention, teen driver safety, and domestic violence awareness. We have programs and resources specific to these topics available through our stations and the Internet.
I would also like to encourage you to come out and join all law enforcement in San Diego's only after-dark race, "Light the Night Against Crime." Details are inside and proceeds benefit San Diego County Crime Stoppers. This is a fun, family-oriented event and everyone is welcome. Registration details are inside.
We are also highlighting a homicide cold case file. If you have any information, please contact our department or San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
Thanks for reading, and have a safe month!
Sincerely, Bill Gore, Sheriff San Diego County |

Teen Driver Safety Awareness Week

October 17 to 24 is National Teen Driver Safety Week. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to unnecessary teen deaths on the road. The Sheriff's Start Smart program is a free class for new drivers and their parents or guardians so they clearly understand their responsibilities when a teen starts to drive. A wrecked SUV from a DUI crash, graphic video images and true-life stories of victims make the dangers of drunk and distracted driving much more real. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in America. We encourage teens and their parents to attend these free classes. Together, we can make a difference and save lives. To register for a free Start Smart class, click here. |

Love is not abusive. Start a conversation now with someone you know if you suspect they are in a violent situation. In an emergency, call 911. Cold Case File
Robert Stonebreaker
54-years-old
On January 16, 2010, California Highway Patrol officers responded to the
6700 block of Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. They found an unoccupied white 2008 Porsche Carrera at the bottom of a small ravine. An inspection of the vehicle was conducted and there was no evidence to believe the occupant or occupants were injured. The car was then towed. The next morning, the residents of 6792 Paseo Delicias found the body of Robert Stonebreaker on their driveway over a hundred yards away from the crash scene. CHP officers and deputy sheriffs
responded to the scene. An autopsy by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office determined Stonebreaker's injuries were consistent with a homicide. The San Diego County Sheriff's Homicide Detail took over the investigation. If you have information about this case,
