Meeting - Highlights

Water Bottle Refill Station to be installed at Pillar Point Harbor

Congratulations to Amiya Iqbal while working to complete a Scouts Silver Award Community Service Project, Amiya brought to the attention of the District that the public and the environment would benefit from the installation of a water bottle fill station at Pillar Point Harbor. She worked with Harbor staff to determine the best placement of the water bottle fill station, as well as the type of station that would be best for the selected location. At the December Board meeting, Amiya made a professional presentation to the Board of Harbor Commissioners seeking approval and support for her Silver Award Community Service Project. The Harbor Commissioners commended Amiya and unanimously approved the project, to include 50% funding.

Once installed, the water bottle fill station will reduce the use of single plastic bottles, bottles which contribute significantly to pollution of land and sea. It also encourages hydration and the promotion of re-usable containers, reducing waste.

The R/V Park Restroom and Greenspace Project near Surfers Beach will also have a water bottle fill station as part of the project.

Local Mitigation Plan.JPG

Multijurisdictional Local Mitigation Plan

Harbor District adopted a resolution approving the San Mateo County Multijurisdictional Local Mitigation Plan. The Plan systematically assesses local natural and human-caused hazards, such as flooding, drought, wildfire, landslides, severe weather, terrorism, cyber threats, pandemic, and the impact of climate change. It identifies mitigation actions that will be implemented by the County and its planning partner jurisdictions to reduce the level of injury, property damage, and community disruption that might otherwise results from such hazards. Through the plan, resources are pooled from throughout the County and a uniform local hazard mitigation plan is created that can be consistently implemented. Finally, the plan ensures eligibility for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Cal OES Grants.

The first draft of the Harbor District Master Plan was presented to the Harbor Commissioner's and public. The plan is the result of months of collaboration and work with stakeholders, interested parties, staff, and the Board of Harbor Commissioners. The draft plan can be found here as well as instructions on how the public can make comments on the draft documents. This plan will drive the District for several years to come, it is vital we get it right!

West Trail Project Underway

With all required permits in hand, a notice to proceed has been issued to Michael Roberts Construction. Within the next few months you will see clean fill moved into the area, and equipment to repair the trail and create a living shoreline. The living shoreline will protect the trail from further erosion and sea level rise for years to come!

Constructions starts on Monday, December 20th so parking at west trail will be limited.

Thanks for your patience!

The Project will results in some temporary inconveniences. Parking will be limited as the West Trail parking lot is being used as a construction staging area. The West Trail will remain open, however there may be temporary closures. Please be careful while walking around construction areas and keeps dogs leased.

Navigation Aids 2.jpg

Navigational Aids to be replaced at Oyster Point Marina

Power Engineering Construction Company was chosen as the contractor to replace the 22 year old navigational aids currently at Oyster Point Marina. They are maintained by the District and are installed to provide boaters with visible channel markers allowing for safe entry to the Marina. The pilings showed signs of severe deterioration. Exposure to the elements have resulted in the stabilization cables being rusted through and wood boring organisms have led to significant rotting of the pilings. Work will begin soon to replace these.
