I usually open my newsletter with " I hope this newsletter reaches you in good health mentally, spiritually and physically."   Well today and everyday, I pray for these things for you and your family members.

Spring is a time of growth, renewal and expansion.  Currently, many of us are settling in, adjusting to a new way of living and developing new paths for our futures.  Some are fortunate to be teleworking while many are without work. Hopefully, you are all taking the proper precautions to remain safe.

I know that these are challenging times for many.  We are certainly experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis... unemployment at an all time high, businesses are suffering/closing, lack of food and medical supplies, domestic violence rising, mental health declining etc. Elie Wiesel wrote "even in darkness it is possible to create light and encourage compassion."   When you feel anxiety, begin slipping or struggling, I encourage you to hold on to the light, attract and provide love, compassion and forgiveness.  Reach out to someone close.  This is not a solo journey.  Humanity is about connectedness.  Most of us have a fundamental need to be connected with others.  While you may not get to hug the ones you love, we are not imprisoned. Nothing prevents you from taking a walk with a friend or loved one while being cautious and adhering to physical distancing.

People say we are living in uncertain times.  I will leave you with words that I mediate on. Faith and fear cannot occupy the same space.  This I know for certain!

This newsletter contains valuable information designed to support good physical and mental health.   Enjoy the read and please share the Wellness Works experience with others by clicking "forward email" to a friend at the bottom of this newsletter.
Dear Mama
Dear Mama
Thank you for your love, support, and the good morals and values that you instill in me.  Thank you for teaching me responsibility early in life.  You gave me the tools to be self-sufficient, intelligent, and responsible.  You always made me feel loved, so therefore, I exude self confidence!  I value and love who I am.  Thank you for teaching me that it's okay to put myself first, because I'm important too!  Thank you for teaching me to NEVER doubt who I am. Thank you for being a mother, role model, and friend.  Thank you telling me that you don't expect me to be perfect, but that you love and accept me for who I am.  Thank you for telling me to live life on MY own terms...That my happiness counts....That I shouldn't live my life trying to please everybody.  You taught me NOT to be afraid to use my voice, because my thoughts and opinion matter.  Because of your teaching, I shine!  You are a BEAUTIFUL Queen.--Anonymous
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE QUEENS
Spring Forward Into Action
As the weather changes and we are able to spend more time outside participating in exercise programs, we not only improve our physical health but also boost our mental health and increase our energy level.

Working in small groups can be effective and safe while still maintaining physical distance. During this challenging time, it has been my observation that individuals are very concerned with protective exterior barriers (that should be utilized) but are paying less attention to our first line of defense...exercise, adequate sleep and proper nutrition. The healthier your body, the better it will respond to illness.

Join me this summer.  Take the time to appreciate the beautiful weather mother nature provides while taking control of your health!
Practice Mindfulness

Be Kind To Your Mind
 Tips to Cope with Stress
  1. Pause, Breathe, Notice how you feel
  2. Limit News Consumption
  3. Get adequate sleep, exercise and proper nutrition
  4. Stay connected.  Zoom is free!
  5. Seek Help if overwhelmed or unsafe.
It has been almost two months now...what are you doing? How are you coping?  I have heard people talk of being on lock down.  I think it's time we view this not as imprisonment but rather an opportunity to preserve life.  I have heard people speak of boredom... There are so many virtual activities that one can advantage of, some of which I have listed on my website  Chanel Speaks..Think About It.  When restrictions are lifted will you be able to reflect on this time and find that you were somehow productive?  Have you read a book, taken a class, participated in virtual museum tours, resurrected/developed a hobby or business, created, authored, reconnect with friends and family, etc.

For those who have children, it can be challenging to manage your time with their needs.  Some will now have a great deal of appreciation for teachers who handle a class full of your children and now have to learn to do so virtually.  When your children are 30 you will be reflecting on this time and wish you could re-live some of these moments.

Have you let the sun really shine on your face and felt the love of the universe.  Observe life, view the trees, flowers, animals...mother earth does not disappoint.

Take a few moments at the start of your day to meditate. Meditation is to listen.  In the evening, pray.  Prayer is to converse with Spirit.   We are in need of global connectedness and healing and it matters not what your spiritual beliefs are. There are many roads to one truth.  Love and compassion is truth.

Lastly, if you have the resources, help another.  Be of service. Send someone a meal, deliver groceries to someone less fortunate, telephone, zoom, text just to let someone know you care. Each one keep one close.  We are all each other's keepers.

This evening I leave you with a heart filled with love.  I stand with you in faith.  I send healing energy to all of you.

May The Force Be With You

Hand-Washing 101
Hand-Washing 101
provided by Maryland Health Matters

Washing our hands is one of the easiest and most effective things we can do to stop the spreads of germs.  The most common way germs are spread is by the hands. This simple activity can help keep your healthy.  The latest research from the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the number of people who get sick with diarrhea is reduced by 31 percent and the number affected by respiratory illness is reduced by 21 percent just by simple hand-washing.

Everyone benefits from hand-washing, except the germs. Here's how to master it in five days steps:
  1. Get your hands wet with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
  2. Rub your hands together for a soapy lather.  be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.  How long is that?  Hum the Happy Birthday song from beginning to end twice.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air-dry them

TIME FOR GRATITUDE
Give yourself time for gratitude. Think of what you can be thankful for, and linger on those thoughts.
Gratitude leads you to think more clearly, to sleep more peacefully, to act with positive intention and resourcefulness. Give your life the benefit of its good and gentle power.
Those times when gratitude doesn't seem warranted, are precisely the times when it will be most beneficial. Look for the gift in the situation, and persist until you uncover it.
Envision your time for gratitude as a pleasant place of refuge and renewal. Go there often, and stay for a while.
You'll empower yourself with a new measure of positive, purposeful energy. You'll open your awareness to valuable possibilities you never considered before.
Spend time in a sustained experience of gratitude, and learn to treasure the feeling it brings you. That feeling is real, and will spread its goodness to every part of your life.
