This Week

The Feast of All Saints!

Join us this Sunday at 10:30, online or in-person, as we worship God together.

Remember to bring a picture of your loved one who has died, and before the service, please set them on the altar in Repaz Chapel. Also before the service, pick up a paper flower or two and write the names of those you would like to remember. We will collect these flowers during the offertory.

Our virtual service is live-streamed every Sunday and available all week. Watch at St. Andrew's Jax YouTube page. You can find the bulletin on the YouTube page or linked below.

Want to share one of our sermons? All of our sermons are now available to watch and share online.

All Saints' Sunday is Here!

Allhallowtide is the Western Christian season encompassing the triduum of All Saints' Eve (Hallowe'en), All Saints' Day (All Hallows') and All Souls' Day.

On the Eve of All Hallows' (also known as Hallowe'en or All Hallows' Eve), some believe that the veil between the material world and the afterlife thins. In order to prevent recognition by a soul, people would wear masks or costumes to disguise their identities, leading to the custom of trick or treating in North America. Preparing for the celebrations to take place on All Saints' and All Souls', Christians would take to the graveyard to pray, fast, and sit in vigil. We even have a liturgy in The Book of Occasional Services in the Episcopal Church to help us do just that!

All Saints' (or All Hallows') is a principal feast day in the church, a holy day to honor all the saints and martyrs, both known and unknown, but especially those who have not been canonized or have their own feast day. This is one of the four feast days in the church where it is especially appropriate to have Baptisms.

The final day of Allhallowtide is known as All Souls' Day and is also called the Commemoration of All Faithful Departed. All Souls' Day focuses on honoring all faithful Christians who are unknown in the wider fellowship of the church, especially family members and friends. This is the day when most people would visit the graveyard to place flowers or leave food for their ancestors, or when the church reads off the names of the faithful departed.

These days, the church pretty much rolls all these feast days into one spectacular All Saints' Sunday, which we'll be celebrating Sunday, November 1st!

A group of people at St. Andrews is hosting a team walking in an upcoming Alzheimer's walk on Saturday, November 7th, at 9am to raise money for research needs increasing awareness of the diseases, and in honor of those who have passed on from them. It does it not cost anything to register for this walk. It is open to all ages and walkers or strollers are allowed. The walk will be held at the Riverfront Plaza, 2 W Independent Dr. Jacksonville, FL 32202. The route is 1.5 miles.

The Alzheimer's walk is a lot of fun that provides much info about the diseases and offers help to those living with the diseases. Please help us to spread the word about Alzheimer's awareness.
