From the Treasurer
This past Sunday the vestry met and I proposed a motion that St. Andrew’s starts the process of becoming a mission with the Arizona Diocese. That motion passed. This motion is proactive to allow time for the transition instead of a last minute reaction. I have worked for the past three years as the treasurer for St. Andrew’s and I can tell you that the current financial situation would have forced the parish to become a mission if we wanted to or not. St. Andrew’s takes in an average revenue of $4,500 a month and has $10,000 in budgeted expenses.
I am not an expert on mission status and I really don’t know all that it entails. I know that the vestry becomes the Bishop’s committee and the Rector position becomes a Vicars position. I do know that in earlier conversations with Bishop Reddall there is not one mold that fits all about mission status. This will be a learning process for us all. Additionally, mission status is not a permanent status. Some time in the future, St. Andrew’s can apply for parish status again.
I’ve heard speculation and conjecture about what will happen to the church and congregation but those are only rumors. The facts are above. I plan to keep our church community up to date as the process unfolds and I encourage everyone to email me, our rector, wardens, and the rest of the vestry with questions or concerns through this process, treasurer@standrewsaz.com.
I feel hopeful about starting this process and If I am honest with myself a little relieved. I’m hopeful because in the discussion about mission status with Bishop Reddall, ensured me that because something happened at another church, that may not be our path at St. Andrew’s. I’m relieved because the Diocese may have other options about our finances. I’m looking forward to our future at St. Andrew’s and I hope you are also. Have a great week.
