Happy Easter!!
Many Thanks!
My deepest thanks to so many who worked to make our Easter celebrations spectacular. The Choir, Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Ushers, Acolytes, Lay Readers, Chalice Bearers, and Welcome Table greeters made the day wonderful. Of course, those behind the scenes gave incredible support -- the volunteers who laid out and printed and stuffed hundreds of bulletins, planned music and liturgy, and assisted in the office. The guest musicians -- the teenagers who organized our Easter Egg Hunt -- the teachers and photographers -- and I'm sure I've forgotten many others -- who all gave St. Anne's that Easter glow. And finally, I want to thank our amazing staff here at St. Anne's who guided the whole process with grace and professionalism.
Happy Easter, and thank you to one and all.
Fr. John Hall

Credit to David Cordts for this incredible picture of our altar. Thank you, David!

THIS SATURDAY IS EARTH DAY

Every single day we walk out our doors into a miracle.  Go outside, breathe in the spring air, see all the little blossoms and bees and know how precious it is. Our little blue home is God's greatest gift to us, such an unlikely little dot of life in the great tapestry of our cosmos. It's hard to believe how delicate it is, how much it needs us. Even beyond this month, even beyond our homes and St. Anne's, please keep in mind that while our Earth shelters us, so too must we protect the Earth. Be mindful of waste, be courteous of our non-human earthlings, love the world around you like the unique haven of green and light and love that it is.

Our next Green Committee Meeting: May 11th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library

April 19th Tips and Suggestions to keep our Earth GREEN!
1. DON'T TOP OFF YOUR GAS TANK. Overfilling causes spills that release hydrocarbons and other toxic chemicals into the air.
2. Don't do the dishes until you have a full load. Your dishwasher uses 12 gallons of water whether it's full or empty
3. Install faucet aerators. You can cut your water usage by up to six percent
4. UNPLUG APPLIANCES WHEN THEY AREN'T BEING USED

There is a lovely tree in the Library. Next to this tree there is a little basket of bright green leaves! On these leaves please contribute your prayers and plans for the world. If you have set up a compost pile in your back yard, tell us! If you have a prayer for the rain forests, write it down and hang it up! Every leaf we see gives us heart and hope for the future of our planet.

There will also be bright pink blossoms on this tree. These all contain items from our Green Committee Wish List. Here at St. Anne's we are hoping to keep pushing to be more conservation minded, that includes everything from recycled paper to automatic light switches. Pluck the flowers from the tree that represent your donation to the fund and write a check or place cash in an envelope for the amount on the flower. In the memo line or in a note in the envelope write that the money is designated for the green fund and the particular item you hope to have purchased, then either place it in the mail or LJ Donnell's mailbox in the office! Helping us fulfill our goal would be a perfect way for you to be a steward of the earth!

"Let us hear You through our encounters with Your creation." - EfM Prayer

Cuba Trip -- Info Meeting THIS SUNDAY
St. Anne's will return to Cuba October 14-21, 2017 to continue our work with the Episcopal Church of Cuba. On our 4th trip to the Island we look forward to continuing to celebrate and build relationship with our Cuban brothers and sisters. In the past we helped with the reconstruction of La Trinidad Episcopal Church in Bermeja, which was able to reopen its doors to the community in 2016. We also delivered two water filtration units to provide clean drinking water for the community. This is an exciting opportunity for adults 18 and older looking to grow in their faith. Please join us for an informational meeting on April 23 at 10:15 in Room 4 to learn more about our trip. If you have any questions contact Eleanor Ware at  [email protected]. Peace.

Cornerstones -- Help End Homelessness
Through your support, Cornerstones has been able to help reduce homelessness in our community by 47% since 2008.  The Embry Rucker Community Shelter, named after a former St. Anne's Rector, stands as a beacon in our community - a steadfast reminder of our community's needs as well as Reston's collective commitment to serve those who are less fortunate. You are invited join Cornerstones for a fundraising breakfast on May 10, 2017 from 8:00-9:00 am at Floris United Methodist Church to gain a greater understanding of the important work Cornerstone's performs in our community to promote self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.  We have come a long way, but the work is not finished.  Your continued support is vital to maintain these services and to hopefully one day end homelessness in our community.  To register for the May 10th breakfast, please email Bob Van Hoecke , or call 703-625-0222.

Become an Usher!
You are a welcoming smile and a good morning.  You direct children to Sunday school and others to find the rest rooms.  You help make the service run smoothly, collect the offerings and assist people getting to the altar for communion.  It is a simple but vital task.  We need volunteers to join the usher corps for the 9:00 am and 11:15 am services.  If you are interested, please email Jim Vollman, the Usher Wrangler.  Thank you.

Monday Book Group Discussion
Our next book will be It's All Over But the Shoutin, by Rick Bragg and discussed on April 24th at Cafe Montmartre.
This haunting, harrowing, gloriously moving recollection of a life on the American margin is the story of Rick Bragg, who grew up dirt-poor in northeastern Alabama, seemingly destined for either the cotton mills or the penitentiary, and instead became a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The New York Times. It is the story of Bragg's father, a hard-drinking man with a murderous temper and the habit of running out on the people who needed him most.
But at the center of this soaring memoir is Bragg's mother, who went eighteen years without a new dress so that her sons could have school clothes and picked other people's cotton so that her children wouldn't have to live on welfare alone. Evoking these lives--and the country that shaped and nourished them--with artistry, honesty, and compassion, Rick Bragg brings home the love and suffering that lie at the heart of every family. The result is unforgettable.
