St. Clare Updates for

August 6 - 19, 2022

Hello St Clare,

This is our time to rest, to take a break from our daily routines, even a time to travel.

Among many things this is also the time to celebrate our Parish Feast Day - St. Clare’s Day!

We pray that the weather will be fine as we have prepared many different activities for children, and for adults too. Please join us on Sunday, August 14th around 12 noon, for food, fellowship and fun!

I also want to challenge you: get to know at least two new-to-you parishioners on that day! You may know them by face, but not by a name. Take this opportunity to introduce yourselves and make new connections.

Fr. Scott will join us for the festivities and celebrate with us all!

May the fun begin!

Fr. Maciej

You may seal the completed form in an envelope marked Pre-Authorized Payment and drop it in the Collection Basket, mail it or bring it in person. The form must be in the office by the 20th of the month in order for it to be effective on the 1st of the month following.
In order to help facilitate the offertory for
St Clare of Assisi Parish, the Archdiocese created an Online Offertory page for either one time or reoccurring monthly or weekly donations using a debit or credit card. Click on the heading above to go to the secure page. You can also donate to Second Collections including our Building/Mortgage Fund using this link.

Donations at Church

If you wish to continue to make your donation at mass, please note that we will not be passing around the collection baskets at this time. Please leave your donation to the church in one of the boxes at the back of the church either when you enter or when you leave.

Second Collections - When there is a Second Collection, one of the collection boxes at the back will be specifically labeled for the that collection. Envelopes should be clearly marked and can be put in either box but cash donations in the Second Collection box will be passed on for that purpose.

There will be a Second Collection on the weekend of August 7 for the Poor Clares.  Please be generous.

UKRAINIAN SUPPORT - We would like to thank everyone who donated money to support Ukrainians both in Poland and in the Ukraine. This money has been forwarded.

We will continue to leave a donation box beside the Ukrainian flag in the lobby as they will need continued support. If you have any loose change or bills please consider making a donation. Thank you.

Envelopes for 2022 have been issued. If you would like to pick up your box of envelopes, please send us an email or phone the parish office to make arrangements.

Feast of St Clare: August 11

Prayers for the Feast of St Clare of Assisi

St Clare of Assisi & the Poor Clares (68m movie)

Patron Saints in Catholicism are venerable women and men from throughout history who are heavenly advocates for places, professions, and people. In these unprecedented times, St. Clare is an especially relevant patron saint to intercede for us all.

St Clare of Assisi is the patron saint of televisions and computer screens, believe it or not. An early follower of St Francis, Clare founded The Order of Poor Ladies, which eventually became known as the Poor Clares. Late in her life, she fell too ill to attend church, and one day the images and sounds of the entire Mass appeared in full on the wall of her room.

This story would have been well-known to Italian native Pope Pius XII, who in 1957 named her the patroness of this new invention—television—that, in his words, “is a wonderful instrument… which can be the source of very great wealth, but also of deep troubles.” This may be why he chose a saint steeped in humility, poverty, and love of God as its patroness. St. Clare is also the patron saint of sore eyes and embroidery, so let us invoke her prayers on our behalf as we learn to teach and work online and perhaps cultivate new hobbies.

St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us!

Francis & Clare

The links below are for a fascinating 6-talk series (an online Franciscan Studies course hosted by the Centre for Catholic Studies, Durham University) which introduces the foundational figures of Francis and Clare of Assisi. Pioneering a new approach to forming Christian community in the thirteenth century, their vision of a form of life ‘according to the gospel’ drew criticism from many in their day, yet it endures today in the Franciscan Family worldwide. This course explores the basic elements of that life, its distinctiveness then and now, and the possibilities it offers to those seeking Christian life in common today. The first five of the six lectures are given by Br William Short OFM. Br Bill was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. After graduating from the University of San Francisco, he entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Friars of St Barbara Province, making his solemn profession of vows in 1978. The final talk, on Clare of Assisi and Thomas of Celano, is given by medieval historian Professor Jacques Dalarun.

Mass Intentions

If you wish to book a Mass Intention please email the office at [email protected] giving the name of the person, whether it is for a living or deceased person, who it is from and if you have any preferences for the the day of the week, a weekend mass or specific date. We will try to book your mass intention as close to the request as possible.

The suggested offering for a mass intention is not less than $10 and can be brought to the office, mailed to 1320 Johnson Street, Coquitlam, V3B 4T5 or dropped in the collection box in the church. Please DO NOT use a collection envelope but put it in a regular envelope clearly marked for what it is for. This offering will go to the priest who says the mass, not to the church.

If you are unable to use email, mass intentions may be phoned in at 604-941-4800.

NEW FOR 2022 AND BEYOND : Due to the high demand for mass intentions we have obtained permission from Archbishop Miller to have multiple mass intentions on one day per week. As of January 2022 we will accept up to 10 mass intentions for Fridays. For all other days we will only book one mass, and we will honour mass intentions already booked.
