St. Clare Updates for

December 21, 2024 - January 3, 2025

Hello St Clare,

As we gather to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us pause to reflect on the profound mystery and beauty of the coming Messiah. Over 2,000 years ago, the long-awaited promise of God was fulfilled in a humble manger in Bethlehem.

Isaiah foretold, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

This prophecy reminds us that Jesus' coming is the ultimate expression of God’s love and His desire to dwell among us. As we celebrate His first coming, let us also turn our hearts toward the promise of His return. Just as the shepherds and wise men awaited the Messiah with expectation, we, too, are called to live with hope and readiness for the day He will come again in glory.

Let us be a light to the world, proclaiming the Good News of Christ’s birth and His promise to make all things new.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Fr. Maciej

Food for Thought . . . and for the Soul

"Anchoring Ourselves within God's Goodness"

Regular readers will know that I have a partlcular fondness for the writing of Fr Ron Rolheiser OMI. So here is my Christmas treat to you.

A classic quotation: "We need to hold and carry within us the tension between being obedient to our churches and not betraying the critical voices within our own conscience. If we do that honestly, one thing will eventually constellate inside us as an absolute: God is good ! "

Don't forget to click on the link at the bottom

We wish all readers a happy and holy Christmas !

Looking Back (but only one week !)

"Am I 'in the pink'?"

On the third Sunday of Advent, the Church commemorated ‘Gaudete Sunday’, where ‘Gaudete’, as we hear in the entrance antiphon taken from Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, translates to ‘Rejoice’. In our second reading, we are also exhorted by Paul to ‘rejoice’ – and not just for now, mind you, but always!

Registration forms, Mass offerings and other mail may be dropped at any time in the mail slot of the parish office door located on 1320 Johnson Street.

The parish office is closed on statutory holidays.

SUNDAY OFFERING ENVELOPES

2025

Available now for pick up

in the church lobby!

Assigning of envelopes is computerized and based on the frequency of envelopes used in 2024.

Parishioners donating through Pre Authorized Payment (PAP) or online through the Archdiocese may request for a box of second collections only (half box) envelopes.

Envelopes are one of the ways to donate, in addition to online and pre-authorized payment. Not having envelopes does not necessarily mean that you are no longer a parishioner.

If you would like a box of envelopes, please contact the parish office.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to this year’s Project Advance campaign. Because of your generosity we have received $167,416.00 in pledges from only 326 of our families or 34% of our registered parishioners.

While we have met our diocesan commitment of $61,300, we still have a long way to go to meet our parish goal of $200,000. All additional pledges will be used to help pay our mortgage and fund other special projects as required in the parish.

If you have not yet donated, please take a few minutes to prayerfully consider what you and your family would like to donate this year. We would love to have 100% participation from our parishioners. Remember, every gift regardless of its size make a difference. Every gift counts.

You can contribute to Project Advance by going online at projectadvance.ca. You can also complete a pledge form (available in the lobby) and put it in the collection, drop it off at the office or mail it to St. Clare of Assisi Parish, 1320 Johnson Street, Coquitlam, B.C. V3B 4T5. Cheques should be made out to Project Advance. You can also call 604-683-0281. Ext. 323.

A special note for anyone who has donated online and has any questions. Please email donations@rcav.org and they will help you. For example, they can tell you when your past pledge expires, how much you have pledged, and they can change your credit card or banking information.

Our way forward begins with your generosity in growing our parish and local Catholic community. We’re grateful for your support. Thank you!

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

4th Sunday of Advent

"Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

Luke 1:45

Our Blessed Mother played a prominent role in God’s plan for our salvation. Through Mary “the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us”, as the Angelus Prayer proclaims. Mary’s yes is the model for our yes as we live out the Stewardship Way of Life. Elizabeth exclaimed, “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” We can ask the same question with confidence and our hearts should leap for joy knowing we have a mother, praying for us “now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Happenings at St. Clare

Thank you for all your support in spreading the spirit of Christmas to the less fortunate in our community.

DONATIONS WILL BE COLLECTED UNTIL DECEMBER 22!

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The shawls are meant to serve as mantles of God's gentle love and blessings. Our hope is that, as the recipients wear their shawls, they will be enfolded in love, peace, strength and comfort. If you know of someone undergoing treatment for cancer or for another serious illness and who might benefit from a prayer shawl, within our parish or beyond, please contact Laura and 604-944-9064 or ccml@telus.net.

Shawls are available by donation and please make cheque donations payable to St. Clare of Assisi Parish.

DO YOU EVER ASK YOURSELF...

What am I looking for in life?

What is the meaning of my life?

How can I be a better person?

What can I do about the loneliness I feel?

How can I come to know God's love?

How can I know the right path God has in store for me?

If you are asking these questions, or questions like them, the Catholic way of life awaits you. Click here for more information

In and Around the Diocese

The goal of “Fiat” Women’s Online Discernment Group is to provide a prayerful environment for young women to discern their vocation, primarily the possible call to Religious Life. These women are given an opportunity to listen to and discuss certain topics about discernment and Religious life in general. Hopefully this Discernment Group will be a good preparation for women who are called to Religious Life to enter the community they are called to with peace and an adequate knowledge of what the Church is asking and desiring for Religious Life.
