Greetings!
As we approach the great Solemnity of Pentecost, our hearts are filled with gratitude and joy. Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit continues to breathe life into the Church, gathering people of every age and background into one family of faith and sending us forth as witnesses of Christ. Pentecost is also often called the birthday of the Church. So Happy Birthday to each and everyone of you!
This year, our celebration will be especially grace-filled. At the 11:00 AM Mass on Pentecost Sunday, we will accompany with prayer and joy three members of our RCIA journey Brenda, Alex and Dominic who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Their “yes” to the Holy Spirit is a beautiful witness to our parish community and a reminder to all of us to renew the gifts received at our own Confirmation. Please keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their life of faith.
We will also celebrate another remarkable moment in the life of our parish family as a group of children receives their First Holy Communion during the 5:00 PM Vigil Mass. For these young members of our community, this encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist marks a precious milestone. May their hearts always remain open to Christ, and may we as a parish support them with our prayers and example.
As your assistant pastor, I would also like to warmly invite you to join us in giving thanks to Christ, the Highest Priest for Fr. Maciej’s 25th Anniversary of Priestly Ordination, which he celebrates on May 26. There are three events lined up to celebrate this special occasion. On Tuesday, May 26, there will be a potluck breakfast after the morning Mass. On the weekend of May 30-31, cake and refreshments will be served after all Masses. Finally on Saturday, June 6, there will be a celebration Mass at 5pm and a banquet to follow in the parish centre. Don’t forget to get your ticket to attend this event! A silver jubilee is a beautiful opportunity to thank God for the gift of priesthood and for faithful service to the Church. On behalf of our parish community, I invite you to keep Fr. Maciej in your prayers and, if possible, to join us in celebrating this special occasion as we thank God for his ministry among us.
Finally, I wish to encourage you to prayerfully support Project Advance this year. Through your generosity, we are able to strengthen both the mission of the local Church and the pastoral needs of our own parish community. Every contribution, large or small, becomes part of the Church’s mission of evangelization, charity, formation, and care for others. Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to our parish family.
May the Holy Spirit renew our hearts this Pentecost, strengthen our faith, deepen our unity, and send us forth with renewed courage to proclaim the Good News.

PROJECT ADVANCE 2026
IS NOW UNDERWAY AT OUR PARISH!!
This year’s campaign is especially exciting as the money we raise after making our diocesan goal of $63,300 will be used to help “build our new rectory” as well as pay down our existing mortgage. Because of the new rectory project, we have increased our target to $250,000 over last year where we raised $220,000. To date we have raised $14,693.
There will be volunteers in the lobby at every weekend mass until June 6-7 to help with your pledges and answer questions. Of course, you can also go online at projectadvance.ca. Or you can drop your pledge into one of the collection boxes or at office; or make a pledge by calling 604-683-0281 ext. 323.
If you are new to the parish or have not received your pledge form and letter in the mail, there are extra pledge forms with the volunteers in the lobby or in the display case by the bulletin board.

A priest was obsessed about reminding parishioners to turn off their cell phones before Mass. He mentioned it at least three or four times before the service started. Then, just as he stepped up to give his homily, in a moment of total silence, a jiggling ring tone emanated from his own cell phone. Red-faced, he waded through his vestments, pulled the device from the holder on his hip, and in an audible whisper said frantically, “Lord, I thought I told you never to call me during Mass?!”
He may have been more symbolic than he realizes. Unlike our cell phones that we can turn on and off as convenient, we can’t turn off a call from God.
A calling often comes at what we would deem the most inconvenient time, because we are so focused on our agendas rather than being aware that within each moment lies the opportunity to respond to God in the world around us. Our minds quickly try to justify why not to take action or why not to step up to help another.
St. Ignatius instead encourages us to be non-attached to any object or plan, save the ultimate goal of serving God. Thus assume your cell phone is always on (and charged), waiting for that heavenly ring tone.

The soft, gentle, and loving voice of God
Discipleship – giving expression to God's love – takes many forms. Some people are passionate lovers. Others have an indignant love. They see injustice and immediately go to it. Others have a very gentle love. They radiate welcoming. Wherever they are they create community. There are others with a quiet love that is very hidden. These are all forms of love, and we each have our own way. God's love is so rich and broad that it takes many people to make it visible. The many forms of love support each other.
Theological reflection is reflecting on the painful and joyful realities of every day with the mind of Jesus and thereby raising human consciousness to the knowledge of God's gentle guidance. This is a hard discipline, since God's presence is often a hidden presence, a presence that needs to be discovered. The loud, boisterous noises of the world make us deaf to the soft, gentle, and loving voice of God.

Mass Intentions
Dates may be subject to change without notice.

If you wish to book a Mass Intention, please send your request via email at stclareofassisi@shaw.ca giving the name of the person, whether it is for a living or deceased person, who it is from and if you have any preferences for the day of the week, a weekend mass or specific date. We will try to book your mass intention as close to the request as possible. Please note that there may be unforeseen situations when your scheduled date may be changed without notice.
The suggested offering for a mass intention is $10 and can be brought to the office, mailed to 1320 Johnson Street, Coquitlam, V3B 4T5 or dropped in the collection box in the church. Enclose your offering in an envelope clearly marked with the name and date of your Mass intention. Your offering will go to the priest who says the mass, not to the church.
If you are unable to use email, mass intentions may be phoned in at 604-941-4800.
