St. Clare Updates for

November 22 - December 6, 2025

Greetings!

Today, as we conclude the liturgical year, we celebrate the glorious Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. This feast is a powerful reminder of who stands at the very centre of our lives and of all creation.

Christ is a King who serves, sacrifices his life for his people and judges with mercy. This kingship is not about domination; it is about vocation.

Accepting Christ as our King means that we dedicate our lives - our time, our talents, our resources, and our very hearts - to His Kingdom.

As the body of Christ, our parish community - St. Clare’s - is called to be a visible sign of this Kingdom of justice, love, and peace.

As we look forward to the new liturgical year beginning next Sunday with Advent, let us resolve to prepare the way for our King not just in our church building, but in the depths of our souls.

Let us live this week - and every week - under the banner of the Cross, trusting in His ultimate victory. We are citizens of His eternal Kingdom, and that reality should shape every decision we make.

This Saturday evening, November 22 our parish community will celebrate a joyful and important milestone in the faith journey of our Inquirers and Candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

At the 5:00 P.M. Mass, we will celebrate:

The Rite of Acceptance: Our Inquirers who are seeking to become Catholic will publicly declare their intention to follow Christ. They will now be known as Catechumens.

The Rite of Welcome: Our already-baptized Candidates will publicly express their desire to complete their initiation through Confirmation and Eucharist.

This is a beautiful moment for our whole community to affirm our faith and welcome our Catechumens and Candidates as they formally join our journey towards the Easter Sacraments.

Please plan to attend this special Mass and offer your prayers and support for these members of our growing parish family!

On Friday, December 5, our Parish Pastor, Father Maciej will be celebrating his 50th birthday.

The Parish Council and I invite you all, dear parishioners, to join us as we celebrate the birthday of Fr. Maciej who selflessly guides our parish and ministers to our community with dedication and love. Let us come together to thank him, pray for him and wish him a very happy birthday extending the celebration at the parish hall after the 9.00 A.M. mass

May God bless you and your families.

In the love of Christ the King,

Fr. Roman

Our appreciation goes out to all parishioners who have made a gift to Project Advance. To date, we have received gifts totaling $142,396 from 267 of our families. Of this, $80,096 will be returned to St. Clare’s. Our goal is to raise $200,000 by the end of the year. Remember that now ALL new donations will be applied to paying our mortgage and building a new rectory and office as our Archdiocesan goal has been met. Please continue to respond in prayer and generosity. Our sharing reflects our caring. You can give online at projectadvance.ca, by phone at 604-683-0281, or in-person at our parish’s office. Thank you so much for your support.

If you have any questions regarding donations already made or tax receipts please email donations@rcav.org

Food for Thought . . . and for the Soul

Discerning God's Will

Small, seemingly insignificant events, ideas, and life circumstances can become occasions to discern God's will and calling in your life. Both inner and outer events and circumstances can be read and interpreted as signposts leading to a deeper understanding of the way the Spirit of God is working in our daily lives. We have the freedom and responsibility to look at our lives with the eyes of faith and a heart of trust, believing that God cares, and is active in our lives.

(Henri Nouwen)

  • Prayer and scripture: Set aside time for focused prayer and meditation on God's word, as it is believed to guide and reveal divine paths.

  • Listen for a "good and acceptable and perfect" will: Be transformed by renewing your mind to help you discern what is good, acceptable, and perfect, as taught in Romans 12:2.

  • Reflect on past experiences: Think about how God has led you in the past, which can provide clues for future guidance.

  • Practice mindfulness: Some traditions suggest setting aside time for meditative or contemplative prayer to make space for God.

Advent, a Season of Waiting & Preparation

The Roman Catholic Church year, begins with the season of Advent. It is also called as the Christian year or the liturgical year. The Roman Catholic Church year, sets out to attune the life of Christians to the life of Jesus. ‘Adventus’ from Latin means, ‘coming’. The season of Advent starts four weeks before Christmas. Advent is so closely related to Christmas, it can scarcely be understood apart from that feast.

Originally, the term Advent was applied to the feast itself. Gradually, it came to designate the time before Christmas. One of the prayers for the second Sunday of Advent, proclaims the central theme of the Advent season:

“Stir us up O Lord to make ready for your only-begotten Son. May we be able to serve you with purity of soul through the coming of Him. Who lives and reigns…”

Here the word ‘coming’ refers to the feast of Christmas. On the feast of Epiphany, the proclamation, “Behold the Lord has come…” is made. Advent, then, is first of all the comprehensive name for the incarnation (God becoming human) and all that the incarnation accomplishes.

Waiting is difficult.

Advent is about waiting. Waiting is part of our life, whether waiting in traffic, or waiting for the results of a competitive exam. Life is all about waiting. Think for a moment about the meaningfulness of some of your own experiences of waiting. What have you waited for? What has been worth the wait? Some of our most vivid memories of the soulful nature of waiting may come from our childhood. Childhood is full of these “not yet” promises. There is a real joy when the waiting ends and what we waited for becomes a reality.

The season of Advent, invites us to repentance. Therefore, the colour purple is used to symbolize the meaning of the season. Jesus came to save sinners (Matthew 1:21) and those who know him are saved by his grace. Often, we see the story of the shepherds, angels and wise men as something nice, but not really relevant to our daily struggle. Advent reminds us that we required a savior to free us from our sins. God’s plan of redemption includes what we experience day after day.

Advent is also a call to hope. Jesus is not only a baby in the manger. He is also the 'King of Glory' and we are waiting for his return. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord (Philippians 2:10). The deliverance we long for will one day fully come, and all that plagues God’s people will pass away.

Mass Intentions

Dates may be subject to change without notice.

If you wish to book a Mass Intention, please send your request via email at stclareofassisi@shaw.ca giving the name of the person, whether it is for a living or deceased person, who it is from and if you have any preferences for the day of the week, a weekend mass or specific date. We will try to book your mass intention as close to the request as possible.  Please note that there may be unforeseen situations when your scheduled date may be changed without notice.

The suggested offering for a mass intention is $10 and can be brought to the office, mailed to 1320 Johnson Street, Coquitlam, V3B 4T5 or dropped in the collection box in the church. Enclose your offering in an envelope clearly marked with the name and date of your Mass intention. Your offering will go to the priest who says the mass, not to the church.
