Dear Friends,

One of the tools that St. Dunstan’s provides me to fulfill our ministry together is The Rector’s Discretionary Fund. This is a fund that I can use, at my discretion, to help both parishioners and non parishioners when they find themselves in a pinch due to some sort of financial hardship. Over the years, I’ve helped folks with rental assistance, groceries, car repairs among many other things. The fund also allows me the discretion to support ministries that are helping others. From time to time I’ve made donations to various outreach organizations.  

Each year, the church provides $500 from its operating budget to help me do all those things mentioned above. Additionally, sometimes, people make donations to the discretionary fund when I perform a funeral or marriage. It is also funded occasionally by gifts from our members. Recently, I have had a few requests that are going to significantly deplete the fund for the year 2024. This is where I need your help. I am inviting you to make a donation to the fund. Like all donations to St. Dunstan’s this is tax deductible. So how do you do this? 

First, you can make an online donation HERE through Realm. Just click the link and select the Discretionary fund.

You can also make a donation by writing a check to St. Dunstan’s and putting Discretionary Fund in the memo line.   

Your donation can help our church be the hands of Jesus reaching out to those who need a hand up. Also, if you find yourself in need of assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me. All assistance is kept in the strictest of confidence and is never known beyond me. Thanks to everyone who has supported The Discretionary Fund over the last many years.

For our Spring 2024 Adult Education Program: Christianity Then and Now

We are distributing to the parish this brief (56 pp.) basic historical introduction to the Christian religion, based on past guest sermons and a recent Adult Ed program. We encourage everyone to read it at your own pace in this Lenten season and over the Spring and Summer; we plan to follow it up in the Fall with a series of ZOOM discussions. Please feel free to share it with others outside our parish, and invite them to join us in these conversations.

THE COLORS & SEASONS of the CHURCH YEAR

Throughout the Lenten season we have focused on the color purple, which symbolizes humility, penance and wisdom. It is also the color of royalty. The extreme differences between humility and royalty expresses one of the greatest lessons of Lent, which is Jesus Christ as the servant-king. Purple is the color of inward reflection, which is one of the important things we are called to do in Lent in preparation for Easter.

A Lenten Preaching Series

At The Cathedral Church of St. Paul

5:15 pm, Tuesdays in Lent.

"Preparing for the great uprising that is Easter: A word to the church from younger leaders"

In this time for rapid change and uncertainty for the church and the world, and in a year when we are preparing to elect our next bishop, how do we chart a hopeful path into the future, following Jesus? This Lent, we open our ears and our hearts to receive a message from preachers in their 20s and 30s. The sermons are offered within a service of Evening Prayer and followed by a soup supper and conversation with the preacher. Join us in person or by livestream.
