Let’s come together and “give from the heart” this Valentine’s Day weekend as a community of faith and share the gift of life. Our friends at the American Red Cross will be set up in the Parish Hall and will be accepting donations over the course of the day. Our goal is to provide 30 donations - it only takes about 15 minutes. Scheduling an appointment is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome, as well. Go to RedCrossBlood.org (sponsor code SJBTS) or call Walter in the office. Thank you.

Can you Handel it? – Fundraiser Concert for St. James UK Choral Pilgrimage
Friday, Feb. 13, 7:00 pm
Comfort ye and come one, come all in a rejoicing spirit to celebrate Handel, a favorite composer to whom we are most thankful. As we will tour this summer to Handel's chosen homeland, we thought it appropriate to honor his birthday with a celebration of his wonderful music. Please join us for a concert to include a raffle, prizes, and audience participation: can you guess how many notes were in that melisma? Our staff singers will present arias, duets, and a favorite chorus in collaboration with instrumentalists from our community, with a reception to follow. Don't miss it!

Art and Spirituality – Lenten Evening Speaker Series
Wednesdays, Feb. 25, March 4,11,18,25; 6:30 - 7:30 pm, Parish Hall
Join us for five Wednesday evenings in Lent as guest speakers share their visions of Art and Spirituality. Sometimes, only art can reveal the invisible, inspiring, and often inexplicable aspects of our faith and our relationship with God. C.S. Lewis likened the human soul's journey to a painting in progress and Thomas Merton captured a similar vision, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” See the poster larger.
To accompany the speaker series, we invite you to read The Art of Lent by Sister Wendy Beckett, to aid our Lenten reflections. St. James will offer copies of the book at our first Wednesday evening session.

Salt of the earth
In our gospel reading Jesus calls us "salt of the earth". The Rev. Dr Mark Hargreaves explores what Jesus meant by that: "Like salt, we're to get out of the saltshaker, make a difference...it's a question that each of us faces. How are we going to be the salt of the earth?"
