Creating opportunities for faith in God
to be discovered, renewed and put into action
Compline-by-Candlelight
“Our Festival of Faith got off to a wonderful start on Sunday. The Compline-by-Candlelight service was magnificent. The service was recorded and you can get a flavor of what it was like here. It’s inspired us to have our Advent Carol service follow a similar format on November 29th. Look out for more details about that service.”

"Festival of Faith: Lament and Hope" IN SUPPLEMENTUM  by Jonathan Nussman
October 18 – November 1, 2020
IN SUPPLEMENTUM is a multi-channel sound installation designed specifically for the nave of the historic St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal church. The inspiration for this piece comes from a desire to memorialize the loss of spiritual and social community during the global COVID-19 pandemic. A single voice sings the sacred "Tantum Ergo" chant—a hymn central to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist—at varying speeds and distances from the altar. Listen to a sample HERE.
This work is approximately 23 minutes in duration and is played in a continual loop.
Jonathan Nussman is a singer, improviser, voice teacher, and sound artist. For more information, please visit www.jonathannussman.com.

Novena of Prayer for the Election
Oct. 27 - Nov. 4
Please join the Bishop and the Diocese in nine days of intentional prayer for our nation as we approach the election. Our Novena is based on the work offered by Forward Movement and will begin on October 27 and continue through November 4.
Each evening there will be an English-speaking service at 7:00 p.m. and a Spanish-speaking service at 7:30 p.m. Congregations around the Diocese have volunteered to host each evening’s offering. In addition to the prayers, there will be a scripture passage and music (in most cases). Each congregation will be creating their prayer service as the Spirit moves them.
These will be available on the Diocesan Facebook page and on our YouTube channel.

"Heart Giving?"

Kicking off stewardship season the Rev’d Mark Hargreaves reflects on the our uniquely suitable gospel reading about what is due Caesar. In the end he quotes one of our beloved Christmas hymns: “. . . If I were a wise man, I would do my part. But what I can I give him, give my heart."
