This Sunday marked the beginning of our annual stewardship campaign. I hope that you will consider carefully how you can play a part in this season’s campaign. You should all have received a pledge card in the mail this week. If not, extras are available with the ushers on Sundays or in the office.

Monthly Requiem Eucharist

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 12:00 pm, in person and LIVESTREAM


This is a Simple Eucharist service, in which we remember those who have died in the month of October. For those who can’t join in person, there will be a livestream available.

Dia de los Muertos Intergenerational Gathering

Sunday, Oct. 27, 9:00 am, Parish Hall


We invite the whole parish to join in on our second 9:00 Intergenerational Gathering for a celebration of All Souls.


We will learn about Día de los Muertos, build our own altar in the Chapel, eat breakfast together, talk about sugar skulls and share in community.


Halloween costumes are welcomed!


*Please bring a picture of a loved one that has passed. We will be making picture frames for them to be celebrated/remembered on our alter for the whole week!

Newcomers Brunch

All new or newly returned members of St. James are warmly invited to brunch following the 10am service (approx. 11:15am) on Sunday, November 3rd.

9:00 am DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION + BREAKFAST- All ages and families join us in the Parish Hall this Sunday for to celebrate!  We will learn about Día de los Muertos, build our own altar in the Chapel, eat breakfast together, talk about sugar skulls and share in community.!Please bring a picture of a loved one that has passed. We will be making picture frames for them to be celebrated/remembered on our altar for the whole week! Halloween costumes are welcomed.


  • 9:45-11:15- Baby Nursery + Toddler Nursery- Children 0-3 will enjoy story, crafts, song, and feast. This week's story + craft is on Creation: God Rested
  • 10:00 WORSHIP All children + youth meet at the 10:00 for worship + Children's Chapel (4k-5th grades) leave after the Gospel reading for Children's Chapel in the Godly Play Room. We talk about our All Saints Day service liturgy, prayers, stewardship and roles for the on 11/3 and enjoy a feast together.
  • 11:15 YOUTH GROUP- After the service, all 6th-12th graders join us in the Youth Lounge for dip, chips, soda and a discussion on the youth roles for the All Saints Day Service on 11/3.
  • 11:20 SINGING YOUTH- all interested children/youth please meet Sydney on the lawn (more information below)

Noon Organ Recital with Michael Lawrence

We welcome Michael Lawrence for our October Organ Recital after the Noon Eucharist. He is the Music Director for First United Methodist Church, La Mesa.

This recital series will continue throughout the year featuring a wide array of talented organists, helping to showcase our new Rosales/Parsons Pipe Organ.

St. James Choir and Orchestra Offer Fauré’s Requiem

Sunday, November 10, during the 10:00 am service


In honor of Remembrance Sunday, Gabriel Fauré’s beautiful and powerful Requiem Mass in D Minor will be offered as it was originally intended – with each movement being performed as a musical interjection throughout the sacred service. The choir, soloists, and chamber orchestra will be led by Bruce Neswick, our Artist-in-Residence.

St. James Singing Youth - All Saints Day

Practice: Oct. 27, after 10:00 am service, Nov. 3, 9:00 am


This group is led by Sydney for children and youth interested in singing. They will meet for 30 minutes after the 10:00 service on 10/27. They will perform the practiced songs at the10:00 church services on All Saints Day (11/3) and the 5:00 Lessons and Carols (12/15).​

*no need to sign up--just come to practice

Altar Guild Members Needed


Our diligent Altar Guild continues to look for a few good women, men, couples, or youth to assist at Sunday services. Training will be supplied and all that's needed is a love of God and desire to prepare a beautiful table for worship with skill and attention to detail.

Bach's Lunch

Wednesday, Nov. 6, 12:30 pm


November Bach's Lunch will feature String Quartet Origins.


San Diego Baroque is a collaborative ensemble made up some of the area’s finest early music specialists. Each artist is an accomplished soloist in their own right and has performed extensively in San Diego and worldwide, with groups such as Mainly Mozart, Bach Collegium San Diego, The Knights and the Hausmann Quartet. The ensemble was created because of the members' enthusiasm and expertise in Baroque music, and the group has collaborated with local choirs, actors, and presented concerts and visited schools throughout San Diego county. 

Isaac Allen, violin; Andrew Waid, viola; Alex Greenbaum, cello and Alison Luedecke, harpsichord and organ.
