ST. JOHN'S YOUTH MINISTRY IN ACTION
Join us in supporting Youth Ministry this week and enjoy a wonderful dinner from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM!
In addition to dinner, there are Choir practices for the Chancel choir (Children's Wing Room #101 at 7:00 PM) and the Ringers (Adult Ed Room #110 at 6:30 PM). Each of these choirs require no special skills, you just have to come with the ability to make a joyful noise.
If you are interested in joining our Worship Team, there will be a meeting in FLC Room #114 (behind the kitchen) at 6:00 PM. If you would like to assist with our worship service, this is the team you want to be on!
We also have a Women's Bible Study going on for any and all women who want to learn more about Jesus through a Middle Eastern lens, in Adult Ed Room #112 at 6:30 PM.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT ST. JOHN'S
DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders.
The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.
The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible.
Commitment and Time Involved
Three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings.

Disaffiliation Update
What is our new name?
At the Single Board meeting on 27 March, the Board approved the new name for the church to be St. John's Methodist Church. This was approved to allow completion of the applications and other paperwork that must be done to accomplish the disaffiliation process by the Conference deadline.
How are we proceeding?
The Single Board approved formation of a new working group called "Genesis" to go forward with the transition process from The United Methodist Church. This new group will include representatives from various church groups, e. g. Trustees, Church Staff, Sunday School classes, UMW, UMM, Youth, etc. Gene Lawhon will be the chair of this team. Current members of this group are John Aleman, Barbara Baughman, Nancy Bottlinger, Chris Cantwell, Chip Case, Cody Champion, Shirley Channell, Michelle Cousineau, Doug Davis, Denise Evers, Kelly Foster, Emily Fraser, Linda Gusnowski, Gene Lawhon, Carolyn May, Dean May, Darren Walker, and Denise Williams.
When do we officially disaffiliate?
Paragraph 2553 of the Book of Discipline requires that churches approving Motions to disaffiliate must be ratified at the next Annual Conference. Our Annual Conference will be held June 4 -7 in Waco. The vote requires only a simple (50%+1) majority. Based on last year's Special September Session, this approval is expected. Official Disaffiliation does not occur until all financial obligations and other requirements are met.
What will be the cost to St. John's?
We have been advised by the Conference that the only cost we must pay to the conference will be the balance of our 2023 apportionments.
For additional information on the disaffiliation process and our upcoming choice to join the Global Methodist Church or become an Independent Congregation, visit the Friends of St. John's website at https://www.friends-of-st-johns-umc-gtx.com
