It's That Time Again!

Thanks to some shoppers gone wild, we can cross off a few things from our needs list. We now have enough rulers, scissors, combs and nail clippers. Patty Oates would appreciate some cash reimbursement for the 250 school bags she purchased if you want to help but don't want to shop. You can give her a check or cash. Also we’re going to request a specific box size that can be purchased at Home Depot for under $2 that is perfect for packing up our school kits.

In Christian sympathy we express our condolences to the family of Duane Borsvold (Cindi Sailus' brother) who passed away last week. There will be a memorial lunch on August 15 at St. John. We will share more information when it becomes available.

The Funeral Service for John Abar will be Thursday, August 6 at A. H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe. The funeral will begin at 10:00 am with visitation prior at 9:30. Pastor Mark will officiate. The service will be followed by a luncheon at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.

Yard to Table continues with our regular Wednesday evening gathering. Gatherings feature service in the garden, reflection, a meal, and fellowship.Some Gatherings coincide with garden skills classes.

Hearts Hands and Voices Summer Camp
Closing Program

Thursday, August 6 @ 7:00 pm

You are invited to this fun and inspiring program as the young musicians of Hearts Hands and Voices Summer Camp present what they have learned. It is amazing to see what 60 campers/alumni can learn in less than 24 hours of camp time! They'll be singing in 6 languages and be 'atuned' to the world around them. Fun!!!! Everyone is welcome!

Fourth Fridays Food & Fellowship

Join us the Fourth Friday of each month for Food and Fellowship. Our theme is exploring the world and its people through food. Each month we'll feature food from a different place - potluck style. We'll share a meal together, enjoy some good company, maybe play some games, and decide together what else we might like to do as this community grows.

St John House News

On Tuesday July 28, our friends Ryan, Michael and Nick joined the Niskanens, Haapaniemis, and Leszczynskis for a pontoon boat ride on the Island Queen. We met at the dock at Kensington Metropark for a 45-minute tour, with a history of the area and saw some wildlife. Beautiful area and great weather to sit at the small tables and have cookies and lemonade after our trip. Eddy was the staff member who transported the guys and enjoyed the boat ride along with us. This trip was a suggestion from Nancy Janik, so we thank her for that. 

Any ideas that you might have please pass them along to Karol Niskanen, 248-470-5023. You are always welcome to come along with us. Watch for some of our upcoming adventures with our neighbors at St John House.

Thank you for your food/personal care/cleaning product contributions for our neighbors in need. Please continue to buy a couple of items each week and bring them to the shelf by the coffee area. If you are a Meijer shopper, they have gone to a pricing policy where you need to buy two (or 3) of an item to get a good sale price. Why not bring the extra? Thank you for your participation in this important ministry.

Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), died 1221

Dominic was a Spanish priest who saw the wealth of the clergy as a stumbling block for the church, so he formed a movement, the Order of Preachers (commonly called Dominicans) devoted to itinerant preaching and living in poverty.
