Hurricane Matthew Recovery
St. Johns County is in the process of recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew. As the relief process continues to evolve, the County has launched a dedicated website to help local residents and businesses track the recovery efforts after Hurricane Matthew. Located at www.sjcfl.us/PostMatthew, the website provides updates on storm-related closures and re-openings of County facilities, FEMA information, disaster relief efforts, and other useful resources to aid in the recovery process.

To better assist County residents with recovery assistance, FEMA is hosting a Hurricane Matthew Federal Assistance Workshop from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at the St. Johns County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine. FEMA representatives will lead breakout sessions regarding registration, individual assistance, and business recovery.

In addition, St. Johns County launched a debris removal website, www.sjcfl.us/HurricaneMatthewCleanup, to
provide residents progress updates, a pick-up schedule listing specific zones to be served, and a real-time map that allows visitors to track which areas have already received an initial pickup of debris. The site will also provide collection guidelines to help residents and businesses ensure their debris is ready to be picked up, an update on the beach cleanup program, and debris totals.

St. Johns County residents who have any questions regarding Hurricane Matthew relief and recovery efforts are encouraged to call the Emergency Management Citizen Information Line at 904.824.5550 or one of the following numbers:

Proposed FEMA Floodplain Map Updates Available for Review
Proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain maps are now available for review at http://bit.ly/29t5Cwy. Released in May, the proposed updates are based on results of a recent floodplain study and portions of the County may have new flood zone designations, which can impact homeowner flood insurance policies and rates. Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the proposed updates to determine the potential status of their property. FEMA will conduct a public meeting in the near future for residents to learn about the new flood zone and the flood zone appeal process. For more information, please call 904.827.6806.

Nopetro/SJC Open Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Facility
St. Johns County and Nopetro celebrated the grand opening of the County's first compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility on August 17 which will serve both county-owned commercial vehicles and the public. As part of a public-private partnership with the County, Nopetro completely funded, designed, and engineered the facility. Additionally, the North Florida Transportation Planning Organizations provided St. Johns County funding to convert more than 130 county vehicles to CNG fleet vehicles. Switching from diesel to CNG is expected to provide the County more than $6 million in savings over the next 20 years, while drastically reducing harmful emissions.
St. Johns County Launches Project Race Track Communication Plan
St. Johns County has launched a comprehensive, multi-media communication plan to ensure those who live near Race Track Road have access to accurate and timely information regarding project updates and traffic conditions. The Race Track Road improvement project primarily consists of the widening of Race Track Road from two lanes to four lanes between Durbin Creek Elementary School and CR 2209. The project will also include construction of storm water management infrastructure; sidewalk, driveway, and asphalt removal and construction; and the installation of additional traffic signals. This enhancement will help reduce traffic congestion in the area while improving roadway safety. Southern Pine Beetle Infestation Impacting St. Johns County Forests

Approximately 178 infestations have been identified in Florida, 18 of which are in St. Johns County. Southern pine beetles cause irreparable damage to heavily wooded areas and can only be removed by eliminating affected trees. Preventative sprays can be used to deter the pests from damaging surrounding trees. To find out more about the southern pine beetle, identifying infestations, and other preventative measures, please call the St. Johns County Agricultural Center at 904.209.0430.
