Crazy Socks Sunday 9/28

What’s a sock’s favorite month? Socktober!

Let’s kick off Socktober with

CRAZY SOCKS SUNDAY!

On September 28th wear your craziest socks as we kick off our Annual Socktober Collection! This has been a hugely successful St.Luke outreach project for many years. Let’s continue to generously support the need for warm socks in our community. New socks for children and adults are needed. Black socks for adults are preferred over white ones and all kinds and sizes for children. Place socks in the toe-tally awesome box, lovingly decorated by Kids’ Corner, which is in the Narthex.

Crop Walk 10/19

October 19th, 2025 is our 37th Gales Ferry/Ledyard Walk, with a community goal of raising $22,000. 75% of funds raised are distributed oversees for programs to provide opportunities that help people improve the quality of their lives. Funds are used for direct feeding programs; they provide tools, training and support to help people raise crops that feed their families and can sell to earn income; clean water, hygiene and sanitation projects to improve health and increasingly disaster relief.

Sign up to join the walk.

Lifelong Learning Opportunities

Several years ago, it was decided to change the traditional title of “Christian Education” to “Lifelong Learning”, to better encompass the idea that we never stop learning about Christ, God’s love, and our lives as Christians.

Middle School Youth Group is looking for adults to coordinate and supervise events and activities for our 5th through 8th graders. Activities could include Halloween trunk or treat, bowling, corn maze, game night, movie night, and so on.

This fall, Adult Forum, includes a book group discussion of How to End Christian Nationalism by Amanda Tyler and led by Pastor Heidi. Beginning in the new year, we are looking for people to lead adult forum learning opportunities. This could be a single-session on a topic or experience you’d like to share or a multi-week discussion group.

Nursery attendants are still needed. This is a paid position that can be job shared.

Please contact Leigh Sammons at lesammons@gmail.com for more information about lifelong learning opportunities at St.Luke.

Kids' Corner

The next Kid’s Corner is on September 28th.

Kids’ Corner meets the second and fourth Sundays of each month. All children are welcomed to join us and teen/adult help is always needed and appreciated!

Fall Financial Stewardship

Campaign Volunteer

Al Nordquist is looking for a volunteer who is willing to run the fall financial stewardship

campaign. This involves composing a stewardship letter to send to St. Luke members

(sample letters from the synod are available) along with a pledge card for 2026,

conducting a stewardship-related temple talk at a church service (optional), and

ensuring that all pledge cards submitted are sent to the Cash Receipts Clerk for entry

into our giving database. Please see Al Nordquist, Treasurer, if you are willing to

volunteer for this role or if you have any questions. Thank you!

Care & Share!

We encourage members to share the bounty of their gardens with the community. Care and Share baskets can be found at the base of the altar on Sunday and also on the kitchen island. Deliveries to Gemma Moran Food Center are on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Thank you for sharing.

Women's Group!

For September the Women's Group is meeting only on the second Saturday of the month. They will will pick back up to twice a month in October.

Come join us and share your joys and concerns in a safe and supportive environment. We will review the scripture readings for the week and discuss their impacts on our lives today as well as how we can embody Jesus's teachings. This is an open invitation to female-identifying adults, and drop-ins are always welcome!

Picnic in the Park every Wednesday!

Join St. Luke members for Picnic in the Park every Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Erickson Park at 14 Military Highway in Gales Ferry!

Pack a snack of your own liking.

Ours is an expandable circle; so, come and join us and get to know your church friends better! Email Bob Erickson at eerickson22@gmail.com for more information and to confirm location.
