Hot Breakfast
Breakfast this coming Sunday, November 4, will be provided by guest chefs, Clarke & Gretchen Wood.

Please plan on joining everyone in Board Hall between 8:30am and 9:45 where you will not only enjoy great food but a time for fellowship.

Our new Bible study on Sunday mornings at 9:00am will be on Paul's Second Letter to Timothy.  This is a beautiful, pastoral letter written while St. Paul was a prisoner in Rome awaiting trial and, eventually, martyrdom.

He wrote to his most faithful companion, Timothy, offering guidance on how to lead a holy life and on how to invite and lead others to do the same.   There's so much practical advice in II Timothy for walking in the Way of Jesus.

It's a relatively short book of the Bible, which will take 4 or 5 weeks to complete, led by Fr. Michael.

100th anniversary of World War I Armistice
November 11, 2018

We'll remember the veterans of World War I and those who perished with special hymns and anthems.

The organ prelude will be Elgar's "In Memoriam - for the Fallen", with the well-known Elgar "Nimrod" at the end of the service.

The anthem uses a text from Pericles' Funeral Oration, Athens, 431 BC.

So they gave their bodies to the commonwealth
and received praise that will never die,
and a home in the minds of men.
Their story lives on without visible symbol, woven into the stuff of other men's lives.

On Saturday, November 3rd, at 3:30pm in Board Hall, we offer an experience of meditative prayer that may be new to many of you: walking the labyrinth.  If you're curious about what this is, simply Google Chartres Cathedral.  It's not a maze, but a pathway leading to a center section and back out again, which symbolizes our life and the journey of faith we share toward the mystery of the Heart of God.  More detailed information will be available soon.  This will be led by Robert Bozeman.

The Lay Pastoral Care Ministry Retreat
The Lay Pastoral Care Ministry will be holding a retreat at Valaterra Retreat Center Sunday November 11th.

Please pray for the Ministry as it continues to carry on service for God through visitations, food, and communion for those in need.

All Saints Day
At each service the weekend of Nov. 3 & 4, we will be celebrating All Saints Day.  If you would like the name of a departed loved one read aloud during worship, please print their name legibly on the registers located in both Narthexes.

Please add your own name, in case we need to contact you about pronunciation. The last day to add names is October 27, 2018.

Winter Foyer Groups Sign-Ups
Foyer Groups are groups of 6-8 (could be more) people that meet for a meal (at someone's home or at a restaurant). Every person (or couple) takes a turn arranging a meeting.  After the Winter meetings, new groups will begin in the Spring.

Besides having fun and getting to know each other, Foyer Groups offer an excellent opportunity to discuss where our church is now, where it is going and how we feel.   Of course, the groups have no assigned topics and people may just want to let the conversations ramble and flow, laugh and have a good time.

Sign-up sheets are at both narthex tables. Last Sunday for sign-up will be Nov. 11th. Call Calvin Riley Pinney: 245 1623 or Caroline Eddleman: 253-0135 for information or questions.

Wednesday Walks on the Anchorage Trail
Join us at the Anchorage Trail each Wednesday at 8:30 AM (weather permitting) for an invigorating walk along the trail that leads us thru a wildflower meadow where you might see deer, colorful birds, turtles and other species of both animals and plants.

After our walk, we can come to St. Luke's to hear the word of God at our Wednesday morning Bible Study. Looking forward to being "on the trail again!" Questions? Contact: Anne Willis at 502-445-2009 or annewillis66@gmail.com

Advent Wreaths
All are welcome to gather in Board Hall on
December 1 at 6:30 pm and December 2 during the 9am Faith Formation hour to festively welcome in the season of Advent by making fresh Advent wreaths.

This was such a well-received event the last couple of years that we have decided to make this an annual tradition here at St. Luke's.

Please contact Beth Myers or the church office to RSVP or for additional information.

Advent Lessons and Carols
Sunday, December 2 at the 10am service

Once again we welcome the expectant season of Advent on Sunday, December 2 at the 10:00 am service.

St. Luke's Choir will sing an abbreviated service of Advent Lessons and Carols, followed by Holy Communion.  Our service will start with the Advent antiphon "I look from afar" set by the 16 th century composer, Palestrina - as we join our voices with choirs around the world who will begin their services with this famous antiphon.

We'll use the Conditor alme siderum Mass (with bells) that we've used for several years during the Advent season.  It's based on Hymn 60, "Creator of the stars of night".

Please mark your calendars for our 6 th concert season 2018-2019
These events will begin at 5:00 pm:

January 27 - Dylon Crain, vocal recital

February 17 - John Cantrell, organist, with Choral Evensong

March 31 - Glenna Metcalf, organist, with Lenten Meditations and Carols sung by the choir
