This Sunday, August 18th we will celebrate our matronal feast, The Feast of St. Mary the Virgin (known in some places as the Assumption of Mary). A festive reception will follow the service.

Mary Day is a great opportunity to invite friends!
Isaac Petty Named Postulant
St. Mary's Family,

Bishop Field has accepted Isaac Petty as a Postulant for Priesthood. This is very exciting news for Isaac and for St. Mary's. In short, postulancy is the first formal step in the ordination process during which the postulant formally prepares for ordination in the context of continuing his or her discernment process.

Isaac has been a member of St. Mary's since 2017, and has served in many ways: at the altar, in the pulpit, as co-chair of the Stewardship Campaign, and helping coordinate Adult Formation. He recently graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary having earned both the Master of Divinity degree and Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies, and continues to work at NTS as an academic administrator. Isaac will continue his studies at the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry in Topeka pursuing a Certificate in Anglican Studies.

Please continue to pray for Isaac as well as our other postulants Lynda Hurt and Richard Liantonio. And please extend Isaac a word of congratulations this Sunday at church!

Penny Auction
Attention St. Mary's family!!!

We want to invite you to bring some extra cash in your pocket when you come to church on August 18th to celebrate the Feast of the Virgin Mary.

We are going to have a Penny Auction during the reception. I have arranged to gather donations from some of our very talented resident artists. Here is a chance to own a piece of their beautiful art as well and help raise money for St. Mary's at the same time.

If you never had participated in a Penny Auction, it is a lot of fun. I will sell tickets before and after mass for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Then, near the end of the reception, the winners will be announced.

I look forward to celebrating the Feast of St. Mary the Virgin with you and sharing in the joy and splendor of her special day!

In Christ,
School Supplies Donation
Thanks to the Commandery of St. Mary the Virgin for donating 21 school supply kits and dozens of binders to families in need – 12 kits to Downtown Outreach and 9 kits to the Ivanhoe Community Center.

Fr. Charles is shown blessing the kits before delivery.
Book Study
St. Mary's family,

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, N.T. Wright's short book on the Lord's Prayer has had a profound impact on my understanding of the the prayer Our Lord gave us and ultimately my prayer life. It is 68 pages long and quite accessible. I encourage you to pick up a copy and join me on Sunday, August 25th after the 10:00 Mass for a discussion of the book. If the discussion is robust and the group sees value in meeting a second time, we can certainly do that.

You can purchase a copy on Amazon for $11.00 (paperback or Kindle) by clicking here .
