Healing Pathway Victim Service Agenc y, a not for profit 501c3, is once again collecting school supplies for kids. Agency clients are kids ages 0-17 in the KC metro area who’ve lost a parent or in home family member to homicide. Generic school supplies such as pencils, pencil boxes, crayons and markers, glue sticks and age appropriate scissors, Kleenex and backpacks, and spiral bound paper wide ruled and narrow ruled are needed. Cash donations to buy supplies are also welcome. A collection box will be in the back of the nave through August 11. Contact parishioner Virginia Murray for details by clicking here .

Mary Day: Our Patronal Feast
On Sunday, August 18th we will celebrate a festive High Mass in honor of our Patroness the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The choir will sing Antonio Lotti's Missa del primo tuono as the Mass setting. Also known as the “Missa Brevis in D”, this Mass setting was composed in the 1730's in the Prima pratica style which is reminiscent of earlier polyphony from the Renaissance era. You can listen to the Kyrie eleison here . The anthem is Lotti's Gaude Maria Virgo.

A festive reception will follow the service.

Mary Day is a great opportunity to invite friends!
Penny Auction
Attention St. Mary's family!!!

We want to invite you to bring some extra cash in your pocket when you come to church on August 18th to celebrate the Feast of the Virgin Mary.

We are going to have a Penny Auction during the reception. I have arranged to gather donations from some of our very talented resident artists. Here is a chance to own a piece of their beautiful art as well and help raise money for St. Mary's at the same time.

If you never had participated in a Penny Auction, it is a lot of fun. I will sell tickets before and after mass for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Then, near the end of the reception, the winners will be announced.

I look forward to celebrating the Feast of St. Mary the Virgin with you and sharing in the joy and splendor of her special day!

In Christ,
Raja
Book Study
St. Mary's family,

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, N.T. Wright's short book on the Lord's Prayer has had a profound impact on my understanding of the the prayer Our Lord gave us and ultimately my prayer life. It is 68 pages long and quite accessible. I encourage you to pick up a copy and join me on Sunday, August 25th after the 10:00 Mass for a discussion of the book. If the discussion is robust and the group sees value in meeting a second time, we can certainly do that.

You can purchase a copy on Amazon for $11.00 (paperback or Kindle) by clicking here .

Peace,
Fr. Charles
Rocking Chair
Many thanks to parishioner Patty Petet for donating this rocking chair to St. Mary's! It is available for moms and dads who may find it useful with their children during the service. You'll find it close to the St. Francis window in the northwest corner of the church.
Cleanup Day
Thanks to everyone who helped with Cleanup Day! Fresh mulch has been laid in the flower bed along Holmes Road, and in the the flower beds close to the office building in preparation for planting season this fall. Parishioners cleaned the nooks and crannies of the church, polished silver and brass, and cleaned the wood finishing around the chancel and sanctuary areas. It was a successful day!
