Solemn Requiem Mass
for All Souls
Wednesday, November 6th ( TONIGHT )
6:00 p.m. in the nave

The music will be led by a schola of men who will chant the old Missa pro defunctis in Latin (click here for a recording), and we will observe all of the old customs surrounding this solemn day, including the use of black vestments, a catafalque , and unbleached beeswax candles (see photo above).

As is our custom, we will pray for those who have died in the parish in the last year, as well as anyone you'd like to add. To add a name to the list , please email it to the office at by noon today .
Funeral Planning
Sunday, November 10th (this Sunday)
After the 10:00 Mass in the nave

It is never too early to plan your own funeral! Please join us as we walk through the various decisions that need to be made about a funeral service. We will provide the forms you need to make your wishes known, and keep a copy on file in the church office.

Note from Fr. Charles: If you are planning on coming to this, I encourage you to come to the Requiem Mass tonight (Wed, Nov 6th at 6pm). Tonight's service will include all of the ceremonial of a "Solemn Requiem Mass" which is one of the standard options for a funeral service.
Stewardship Thoughts
Greetings, friends!

My name is Isaac Petty and I have been at St. Mary’s for nearly three years. In that time, my life, faith, and vocation have been transformed by participating in the ministries of our church. Remembering me and my fellow postulants in your prayers at each Mass – that we may grow in knowledge and holiness of life – is quite humbling as I continue my preparations for the priesthood. Without the support of our loving community, I would not be the minister I am today nor the one I am becoming.

Beyond my liturgical service on the altar and in the pulpit, one of the ways I offer myself to our shared life together is in co-chairing the Stewardship Committee. Stewardship is about offering ourselves and all of our life together as a church to God by living out our individual and communal vocations. More than acts of service, we also are called to share our resources with one another and for the sake of the world.

As the Stewardship Committee’s Pledge Drive is nearing the end of its annual appeal, I would encourage you to support the various ministries of St. Mary’s that are forming all of us into the people God is calling us to be.

You can submit an electronic pledge card here or fill out a paper one the next time you’re in the church. I hope you will join us as we gather all of the pledges on Christ the King Sunday (24 November).

St. Mary's Church
7:00 p.m.
Reception immediately following in the parish hall

Cardinalis  is a professional choir under the auspices of William Jewell College. Led by Anthony J. Maglione, the ensemble pairs William Jewell’s Choral Scholars with professional singers from the Kansas City area to create a unique ensemble with a focus on apprenticing young professional singers. Founded in 2015, Cardinalis is quickly becoming an ensemble of repute in the greater Kansas City Area. Recent highlights include collaborations with members of St. Tikhon’s Choir, a performance on the Harriman Jewell Series with the Mark Morris Dance Group, and a premiere performance at the 2018 American Guild of Organists National Convention.
Vestry Nominations
If you would like to suggest yourself or another parishioner for a three-year-term on the governing body of St. Mary's, please submit your suggestion from our website by clicking here .

In order to serve on the Vestry, a person must be an adult communicant member and a financial contributor. Other important qualities in a Vestry member include a history of active participation in parish life and ministry and a pattern of personal prayer. Familiarity with business and/or financial processes is often helpful as well.

Suggestions are not nominations, so it is not necessary to get the person’s permission or verify their qualifications. The Nominating Committee will reach out to qualified individuals and finalize a slate of candidates to be presented to the parish at the Annual Meeting to be held at the beginning of next year. This year's Nominating Committee includes Fr. Charles Everson, Ms. Sharon Hunter-Putsch, and Mr. Dennis Robinson.

Please prayerfully consider suggesting yourself or someone else for these important positions in the life of the parish. Nominations must be received by Friday, December 6, 2019.
