Women of St. Mary's:
Our next bible study will be this Friday, April 30th at 7 p.m. This will be a "hybrid" meeting: you can choose to meet either in-person or on Zoom:
1. In person: Meet at Debbie Benson's house. We'll wear masks and maintain social distancing.
2. We'll have an open Zoom during the meeting as well. If you prefer to join us this way, here's the link:
We'll be discussing Lesson 3, Abigail, from Max Lucado's book, Ten Women of the Bible.
Feel free to call me if you have any questions.
Blessings!
Laura

Weekly Greetings
St. Mary’s in the Valley
Thursday, April 29, 2021
Hello Everyone –
I hope this finds all of you safe and healthy as our world continues in its efforts to “normalize.”
Everyday I read about something or another that is reopening, or in the process of serving additional numbers of people. Barring any major complications, I find myself just a bit more confident that our lives will once again be like they were pre-March, 2020. That’s what my prayers have been about recently, and I’m thinking that God has heard not only me but so many others across this country. My prayers won’t stop though, not when other parts of the world are still suffering so much.
We are continuing to enjoy our Sunday morning worship service with time spent both outdoors and in the sanctuary. While numbers have dropped a bit since Easter Sunday, we are still loving the opportunity to be together in fellowship, safely masked and distanced, but still in communion with each other. Join us if you can, and if you are opting to stay closer to home, Father Phil still provides the liturgy and has his regular You Tube service available. I don’t know about anyone else, but that alone was such a blessing to me during the months of quarantine.
I saw the following poem by Bernadette Noll a few weeks back and loved the message. I’d like to share it with you as the thought for this week.
I want to age like sea grass.
Smoothed by tides
but not broken.
I want my hard edges to soften.
I want to ride the waves
and go with the flow.
I want to catch a wave
and let it carry me
to where I belong.
I want to be picked up
and held gently by
those who delight in my
well earned patina and
appreciate the changes I went
through to achieve that beauty.
I want to enjoy the journey
and always remember that if
you give the ocean something
breakable it will turn it into
something beautiful.
Blessings and peace to you all for the week ahead.

Sacred Ground is an exploration of our racial attitudes which is has been prepared by the Episcopal Church. Cindy Dodson is leading our Sacred Ground Sessions.
Everyone can undertake a review of one's attitudes on race relations. The Episcopal Church is offering some opportunity. The Episcopal Church did an racial justice audit of Episcopal leadership. You can visit the link here: Racial Justice Audit

Is God calling you to Centering Prayer? Two Opportunities to Explore
The Centering Prayer Group continues to meet, via Zoom, every Monday at 4:30 p.m., ending promptly at 5:45 p.m. Centering Prayer is a method of contemplative prayer in which we rest silently in the presence of God, releasing thoughts and feelings, surrendering ourselves in love to the Divine presence and action in our lives. We do this in silence, with the help of a sacred word or phrase, known only to ourselves. After the 20 minute silence, we typically have a formation period with readings or film, followed by faith sharing and discussion. If you want to know more and are interested in joining, please contact either Deb Lewallen ([email protected]) or Cindy Dodson ([email protected]).
A Friday morning Centering Prayer groups has started. The format is the same except that there will be no formation, sharing or discussion. The planned schedule is 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., every Friday. If you are interested, contact Cindy Dodson ([email protected]).

Dear Parish family and friends,
Alleluia Christ is Risen! The Lord is Risen indeed, Alleluia.
This Sunday, we will be pondering Jesus as the Vine. He is the Vine, we are the branches. This is a metaphor because exact equivalency would mean a vegetative state. The metaphor is meant to evoke the organic mysticism of being connected to God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus as our Vine means that the Cosmic Christ is the fullness of humanity to which we are called. If we were to expand this metaphor, one might say that the Holy Spirit is the Holy Sap of the living, flow of life which flows through the Vine into the branches.
The command of the words of Jesus are: Abide in me as I abide in you. Plants don't have the choice to abide, but we as volitional agents have this choice.
Let us make the choice to "abide" each day of our lives and so remain connected with the original blessing of the divine stock which is the image of the creator upon our lives.
Let's remain connected with each other and as a community of love, invite others to know the experience of abiding in God through Christ.
We are glad to be meeting on Sundays at church. We begin outdoors and then move inside for communion. At the same time, we are posting the liturgy on our Youtube channel on Saturdays. We hope to see you soon. Please call if you need pastoral care.
Easter Blessings and much love,
Father Phil
