Hello St. Mary’s Friends –
I hope this finds all of you enjoying the beautiful spring weather and staying the course in this mixed-up world of ours. Getting up to each day’s morning headlines is a challenge I would not wish on anyone. It seems that each day brings another world crisis of one sort or another. There’s barely room to fit every catastrophic event on the front page of whichever newspaper we pick up. I’ve found that from a prayer perspective, I need to stop hoping God will fix the world to my specifications, simply put my trust in his judgement and love. And, with more prayers, and faith too, give it up to Him. To me, that’s what faith is, letting go and letting God handle things.
Last Sunday, we all experienced a real treat when we welcomed Rob Lewallen and his Shirt House Band to provide the wonderful music for our Bluegrass Mass. It was so much fun, and spiritually uplifting, too, to hear familiar old-time tunes and hymns as we worshipped together in our wonderful new space. I hope you will all take time and consider joining us sometime soon. The sanctuary looks fabulous and by now, the painting should almost be finished. Thank you so much, Virginia Pollack, St. Mary’s peoples’ warden, for your leadership and hard work in getting these tasks completed. I don’t think we’ve ever had a more thorough assessment of what needs to be done to bring St. Mary’s back in all her glory. Stay tuned and we will continue to inform you of what needs to be done and how you can help meet these needs.
I’ve borrowed the thought for this week from an item posted a couple of weeks ago by our own Belinda Long. It may, or may not, have been written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, however it delivers a powerful message, and I’m pleased to share it with you.
To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;  To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Have a wonderful week my friends! Stay healthy, count your blessings, and pray for peace!

Thank you to Virginia and painting crews. It should be finished around midweek.
Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer as a Life Discipline

Centering Prayer will meet on May 9, 2022 at 4:15 p.m.on Zoom. We have several copies of the updated version of Fr. Keatings's Open Mind, Open Heart, enough so that we probably don't need to share books. We will use this book for formation and we will practice lectio divina with our readings. The Friday morning Centering Prayer on Zoom continues at 8:30 a.m. for a short, half hour session of meditation only. If you want to know more and are interested in joining, please contact either Deb Lewallen (deborahslewallen@gmail.com) or Cindy Dodson (cindysberrypatch@gmail.com).
Vicar's Voice
Dear Parish family and friends,

The Bluegrass Mass and Concert with Rob Lewallen, Len Claeson, and Peter Lauterbach was wonderful, and Deb Lewallen solo for Ain't No Grave, as well. We are grateful for sharing their gifts with us for this liturgy. The music highlighted the new acoustics with our tile floor, and it was especially noticeable for the vocals.

Progress is being made in the sanctuary. We hope to finish the tile, the edge caulking, the threshold installation, the painting, and installation of the baseboards by next week. We thank Virginia and her crew of volunteers.

Good Shepherd Sunday coincides with Mother's Day and certainly mothers have been good shepherds in the life of the people of this world. We hope moms will be present for a blessing in our liturgy and also we will remember our faithful departed mothers and grandmothers at the altar.

Let us remember that the Good Shepherd models and calls us to be people who use our life gifts to help those who are vulnerable.
