Worship Information
On Sundays we meet at 9:30 a.m.

The Youtube liturgy is posted on Saturday evening.

You are Invited to Walk in the Ramona Pride Event on Saturday, June 25th beginning at noon
The meaning of Pride Month is about the rights and dignity of people to be who God created them to be, and to remind ourselves of our own ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence regarding what pertains to people who are created equal by God with the right to liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. Since we have not always practiced this for all persons, including the LGBTQ community, we gather to remind ourselves of the application of our American ideals to beloved members of this community.

Join us at Starbucks at Noon. We will march peacefully down Main and return.

Weekly Greetings
         St. Mary’s in the Valley
         Thursday, June 23, 2022

Hello St. Mary’s friends –

It’s hot, it’s officially summer, and we can now say we’re in the midst of it. Temperatures continue to be high, so I hope you are all being cautious with your outdoor activities, staying well hydrated, and just taking it a bit slower than usual. Save those out of doors chores for early in the morning or early in the evening. I know we’ve passed the longest of the long days of summer, but there is still plenty of daylight to get a few things accomplished outdoors when it’s not in the heat of the day.

Speaking of summer, that means the 4th of July is coming up very soon. I’m happy to say that a St. Mary’s July tradition is still in place, and we hope you will join us in the parking lot on the 4th of July to enjoy fellowship, food, music, and of course, the best seat in town for Ramona’s fireworks show. Colin Backholer will be here with all of his musical equipment, so whether you just like to sit back in your lawn chairs for some great tunes, or if you think maybe you would like to try singing along, the opportunities are numerous. Bring your picnic, there will be a grill available for you to cook something up for yourself or your family, and just settle in to enjoy the evening with old St. Mary’s friends. And maybe to meet some new folks too! Not too sure of the exact time yet, but we’ll get that information out to you as soon as details are pinned down.

Just a reminder – if you are traveling this summer and will be missing worship services, or if you are still taking advantage of our weekly You Tube service on Saturday evenings, please don’t forget your pledge to St. Mary’s. We’ve gotten a bit behind in our pledges, and while that is somewhat normal and to be expected, we still need your financial support in the “off season”! The bills don’t take vacations, and we continue to have obligations that must be met, so we are hoping we can continue to meet expenses even in those weeks where many people are away from home.

I’ve been thinking about prayer recently, and I shared the following at last week’s BC meeting. I thought you might like to see it as well. It comes from a source called Higher Dimensions.

What is a prayer? Prayer doesn’t just happen when we kneel or put our hands together and focus and expect things from God. Thinking positive and wishing good for others is a prayer. When you hug a friend. That’s a prayer. When you cook something to nourish family and friends. That’s a prayer. When we send off our near and dear ones and say, ‘drive safely’ or ‘be safe’. That’s a prayer. When you are helping someone in need by giving your time and energy. You are praying. When you forgive someone from your heart. That is prayer. Prayer is a vibration. A feeling. A thought. Prayer is the voice of love, friendship, genuine relationships. Prayer is an expression of your silent being.
Have a wonderful week – stay cool and stay safe.

Blessings and peace,

Remember the Fourth of July Picnic and Fireworks is coming soon. We will meet on the parking lot for the festivities. Colin has music, sound, and patriotic accompaniment for the fireworks for us. There will be grills here for your burgers and hot dogs. And you can bring a dish to share if you wish. We will begin by 6 p.m. and stay through the fireworks.
Centering Prayer Schedule for the coming weeks.
Due to summer travel plans, and the Fourth of July Holiday, there will be no group Centering Prayer on the following dates:

Friday June 24
Monday June 27
Friday July 1
Monday July 4
Friday July 8

We will resume our group sessions on Monday July 11. Blessings for your daily sessions and until we can gather together again.

Love and peace,
Deborah and Cindy

Vicar's Voice
Dear Parish family and friends,

With heavy hearts, Karen and I have announced our decision to move. We thought that we were going to be in Ramona as perhaps our final home, and certainly our distaste for the hassle of packing and moving again is something that would not make us make a move lightly.

We will be moving back to one of my boyhood locations in Minneapolis. Yes, brrrrrrr, why would I do that? Karen and I will be closer to family members but also have the freedom to be present to situations of need more quickly.

We appreciate your understanding and your prayers for this new circumstance. We have enjoyed our time here with St. Mary's and in our lovely home, which will probably the favorite home of our lives.

I feel confident of the strength of the lay leadership going forward in the future of the parish. We have "more than survived" the pandemic shut down; the ministries have been expanded. La Misa in English, Sacred Ground, Earth Day Sponsorship, Outreach Commitment, and a Craft ministry add to the existing Bazaar. The completion of the repair to the foundation of the worship space was major and the new flooring and lively acoustics has brightened the worship experience.

St. Mary's will be assisted in the transition by the diocesan office with Canon Gwynn assisting. As a former vicar of St. Mary's, she knows our situation and most members. Our Bishop's Warden and Cindy Dodson will be working with her to implement a strategy for the transition period.

I believe in you and the lay ministries which many of you have. I will work in the days ahead to prepare for the transition in any way that I can.

St. Mary's has an important witness in this community to stand for some very crucial values of love, justice, and the inclusion of people in the circle of dignity.

With God's help, we will go forward.

With prayers and love,

Father Phil
