A Word from Fr. Tim

Youth Sunday: Come and Worship!

In our baptismal liturgy, which we will hear next Sunday on the Day of Pentecost, we promise God and the candidates to do all in our power to support them in their life in Christ. We commit to their care in the church. We promise to witness their upbringing in the church as God begins a new chapter and beginning in their lives. It is a serious question that the celebrant asks the congregation and one that I take to heart when I answer it. The bold statement, “We will” should echo through the nave and into the narthex as a declaration that our young people matter to the community, and we commit to our role to help today's youngest church members grow and mature in their faith.

We will celebrate and honor our youth during our worship services this Sunday. Celebrating our youth and youth ministry as the church of today instead of the church of tomorrow and the future will be exciting. Jacob Hurst will preach the sermon at the 8:00 and 10:30 services. At the 10:30 service, our youth will lead the worship service as ushers, greeters, lectors, and intercessors. We will also honor and bless our seniors during the liturgy. It will be a fun-filled day as we conclude the program/school year on a positive note! In addition to Youth Sunday, we will recognize all Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, and volunteers who have cared for our children and youth during the year.

I would like to encourage you to come to the worship service this Sunday! It would be a great way to show our love and support to the youth and adults who take care of them. St. Matthew's has always been dedicated to youth ministry, and it's important that we keep that tradition going strong. I can't wait to see you at church on Sunday!

God’s Blessings,

Father Tim

Wardens Corner – Just Be

God works in ways we least expect sometimes. In the past few weeks I have been concentrating on a “Be” that Fr. Tim talked about during our Annual Meeting, JUST BE. It was not something I planned, but a doctor prescribed rest and relaxation time. Guess what? Things still got completed and ran well. If you know me, asking others for help is not a normal for me. I encourage you this summer to take some intentional time to “Just BE.”

Let Go, Let God, and All Will Be Well!

Peace, Trisha Voiles

Our St. Matt's Garden Landscape

from Janis Williams

My heart always felt an affinity for the Earth, and gardens in particular; my family was a huge influence in developing this passion. As a member of the Building and Grounds Committee since 2010, I am very familiar with almost every plant on our beautiful church campus. Our gardens suffered significant damage in the sustained freeze last December, so we are working to repair and replace damaged plants. In doing this we are continuing the tradition of honoring some cherished Saint Matthew's members with donations of plants in their memory as we continue our efforts to beautify the landscape.

We are working as a team and wish to thank Warren, Dennis, Judith, Kim, Cecilia, Katherine, Ava Kay, Rosemarie, Peggy, Sylvia, Scout Troops 533 & 5553, and others. While our gardens are developing, the temps get higher, and rainfall less frequent, so we will need more volunteers to keep everything beautiful this summer. A very big thank you to you all.

If you can help with the watering, please contact Janis Williams at 770-367-4930.

Outreach

May Food Drive Continues -May is the month in which St. Matthew’s will focus on collecting special items for the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministries. 2023 has been an especially difficult time for many of their clients. The food supply is at a seasonal low right now. The Co-op has asked we collect PB & J, Mac &Cheese, 1 lb. bags of white or brown rice, canned chicken, canned pasta and canned pineapple. The pineapple is always in high demand and just seems to fly off the shelves.

The Outreach Committee will be handing out bags with attached food list after both services. Please fill a bag or donate as you are able and return it to the barrel outside of the Parish Hall. Thank you for your support.
