St. Thomas School Newsletter
October 19, 2016
Dear St. Thomas Families,

The first quarter ends today, Wednesday, October 19, with report cards being distributed on Wednesday, October 26. Our goal this year is to discontinue the distribution of a paper report card since the information can be viewed by parents online through ASCEND.  We are still working out the glitches, but we will inform you when we discontinue the use of paper report cards.

Please note that if there is a past due amount on your tuition, you will not receive a report card.  If you have questions regarding your account, please contact Mrs. Osburg in the parish office.

Planning ahead :  On Friday, October 21, 2016 there is no school for a faculty/staff professional development day.
It's the end of the 1st quarter, so that means students may not wear shorts again until the 4th quarter.  However, as a reward for improved respectful behavior on the playground, we are giving the students one extra day of wearing shorts!! Therefore, beginning on Monday, October 24th,  shorts cannot be worn to school.  Please review the  Uniform Policy , which can be located on the school website.

The Feast of our Lady of the Rosary was on October 7th.  The 8th grade class delivered Rosaries to all of the students who were so excited to receive their own Rosary!
Join the Global Education/ISSE meeting on Monday, October 24, 4:00 p.m. in the Library to learn more about St. Thomas School Global Education Initiative.  Detailed information will be available for our school families who are interested in sending a student to Mexico, plus much more.
Congratulations to our Cross Country Boys and Girls teams who came in 1st Place in the 2016 St. Henry DHS Invitational and Jr. High Academic Team for winning the following meets:
  • St. Peter and Paul:  6th grade won; JV lost, and Varsity won.
  • St. Therese:  No 6th grade match; JV won, and Varsity won.
Go Tomcats!
The location and time of the Student Council bake sale fundraiser, scheduled for Thursday, October 20th has been changed due to the weather forecast.  The bake sale will take place in the cafeteria after each scheduled lunch period for students to purchase "goodies"!   All proceeds will be donated to the IHM chaperone/teacher injuried during a field trip.
Have a bless week.

Family Fun Night at Barnes & Noble:
Mark your calendar for our 10th annual family night at Barnes & Noble on Friday, October 28 from 6:00-9:00.  We will have a Halloween theme and invite all children to wear their Halloween costumes.
Once again Mr. Markey is planning a wonderful musical performance by our students.
Miss Osterhage is putting together a selection of student artwork for display.
Enjoy building with Legos and Halloween crafts.
We are in still need of face painters for the evening. If you are able to help please email Mrs. Bailey.
If you have not attended our family night before I really encourage you to attend. It is a fun night for the children, but also a great opportunity to meet and talk with other parents as well.
This is one of the two big fund raisers that are held for our library each year. With your support last year we earned a Barnes & Noble gift card for $462. This enables us to keep up with the latest and best books for our library.
Hope to see you at Barnes & Noble on October 28.
