This edition of the electronic newsletter continues our past practice of celebrating success of both the city along with the industries and allies that helps make St. Charles a great place to live, work and play.
At their recently completed annual meeting, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) honored both our Economic Development and Media Departments for their multimedia promotion effort in our Illinois workforce recruitment program.  Additionally, Economic Development was also honored for achieving re-certification as an Accredited Economic Development Organization.
This newsletter also highlights other successes such as the opening of the Drury Plaza Hotel at Streets of St. Charles, the ribbon cutting of the new Mission Taco Joint at Streets, the beginning of significant improvements at many of our parks and unveiling of our next workforce recruitment program in Bloomington, Illinois.
These stories are prime examples of the vision of the City of St. CharlesFirst, it says a lot when independent third parties celebrate the successes in St. Charles.  From the IEDC awards to the growth at Streets of St. Charles...other people are taking notice of what is happening here.  Second, the parks renovations and the workforce recruitment program says we are not resting on our laurels.
This City truly is committed to taking the successes of our past to create even more success in the future.  This success was not only achieved by this community; but by all of our partners, industries and allies.
Are you looking for a community that is grounded in the past but has a strong vision for the future...then set your sights on the City of St. Charles.  While others are touting our successes, we are continue to look to the future.
And remember..."If it's happening, it's happening in St. Charles."

Thank you,

St. Charles to Host Cutting Edge Workforce Recruitment Program

Following the success of a similar effort held earlier this spring, the   Economic Development Department has announced it will host a second workforce recruitment program in Bloomington-Normal.  Once again,   St. Charles ,   EDC Business & Community Partners and the  St. Charles County Workforce Development Office will be joined by a contingent of St. Charles businesses.
"Based on our past success we determined a second program was warranted.  Given the number of partners attending the October fair and the results from March, our assessment is justified," stated Economic Development Director David Leezer.
The St. Charles Career and Lifestyle Day will take place on Thursday, October 26th from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Hyatt Place in Normal, Illinois.
"This program demonstrates our commitment to helping our employers find the labor force they need.  Given the extreme economic disruption taking place in Illinois and the strength of our regional economy, this is the most logical place for our focus," Leezer added.
Employers attending include:  Ameristar Casino & Hotel, LMI Aerospace, Patriot Machine, SSM Health, Pickett, Ray & Silver and Brown, Smith Wallace.  The City's Police Department and Fire Department will also be on hand looking for men and women wanting to join their ranks.

City Receives AEDO Reaccreditation by the IEDC
IEDC Board Chair Michael Langley presents AEDO plaque to David Leezer

T he   International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announced the Economic Development Department for the City of St. Charles has once again been recognized as one of sixty  economic development organizations accredited by IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). Originally accredited in 2014, the organization was reaccredited by IEDC following three successful years of activity as an AEDO member.
"The City's department displays the professionalism, commitment, and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor", said IEDC President and CEO Jeff Finkle.
The AEDO program is a comprehensive peer review process that measures economic development organizations against commonly held standards in the profession. The program consists of two phases: a documentation review and an onsite visit. Each phase is designed to evaluate information about the structure, organization, funding, program, and staff of the candidate economic development organization.
Earning the AEDO accreditation tells the community and prospects that the Economic Development Department for the City of St. Charles attained a measure of excellence assuring that their trust is well placed and their business is in good hands.
"We are proud and honored to have met the high standards set by IEDC and AEDO for reaccreditation," stated David Leezer, Director of the City's Economic Development Department.  "This achievement, which has been earned by a comparatively low number of organizations in North America, reinforces the quality of this department."
"We are also proud to say that of the five AEDO's in the State of Missouri, St. Charles is the ONLY community in the state to have achieved this designation," Leezer added.
The City was formally recognized for this achievement in September at the IEDC's Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada.

Featured Article - 5 Reasons a Move to the Midwest Might be Good for Your Business

Steve Johnson, CEO of Missouri Partnership

Missouri is a great place for business, according to the article "5 Reasons a Move to the Midwest Might Be Good for Your Business" on Inc.com. And Missouri's global agtech leadership is a key reason.
"The future of farming looks bright," Rahul Varshneya writes in Inc. "Businesses large and small are investing in agtech solutions to tackle the challenge of feeding a crowded planet, and advancements in everything from drone technology to biofuels are making the space increasingly exciting to work in."

"This growth in the agtech sector has revitalized economic prospects in the Midwest. The allure of cities such as Chicago and Minneapolis continues to draw people from all over the world to the region. The latter is experiencing a level of growth not seen since the 1920s. But the cultural and architectural rebirth of two other important anchor cities - St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri - has also contributed to the region's revitalized economic prospects. These cities and the rest of the Midwest are at the epicenter of the booming agtech industry, which has attracted nearly $8 billion in venture capital over the past two years."

"The Midwest has become a  magnet for agricultural organizations around the world searching for a place rich with talent, innovation, and potential revenue," Steve Johnson, CEO of Missouri Partnership, is quoted as saying.

The author agrees, writing, "His optimism is well-founded - and that growth will occur throughout the region."
