Stratton Mountain School Newsletter
|
|
Dear SMS Community,
All of us here at SMS enjoyed connecting with parents this weekend during parent conferences, the golf event, and the home soccer games. I hope that the long weekend proved restful for our students, and I look forward to welcoming them back to class tomorrow morning.
In a few short weeks, we will be hosting our Winter Term Registration. Included in this newsletter is information about preparing for arrival, including quarantine and testing requirements. Please contact me if you have questions about preparing to join our community on Sunday, November 1.
Finally, as we look forward to the Thanksgiving Break, all families are reminded that travel to a red or yellow zone will require quarantine. Students visiting red or yellow zones are expected to quarantine in those zones for the entire week and provide a negative PCR test prior to joining an SMS camp or returning to school. Students who are unable to maintain quarantine over the break will need to quarantine at home for the following week. On-campus quarantine will only be provided for International students and students living more than a one-day drive from SMS. We will be providing testing on campus on Friday, November 27 to assist families with this requirement.
Thank you for your continued efforts to keep SMS safe and healthy as you plan for any upcoming travel.
In Partnership,
Holly Wendell
Assistant Head of School

COVID-19 Testing on October 13th
This week's COVID-19 testing will take place on Tuesday, October 13. We have adjusted our testing schedule to align with Tuesday's academic schedule. Please note the following new testing times for students:

Flu Shot Clinic on October 16
Stratton Mountain School will be offering an influenza vaccine clinic for all students and staff on October 16.
The clinic is being offered in partnership with Mountain Valley Health Center and will be held on campus starting at 8:30 a.m.
Those interested in receiving the vaccine must complete and return the Flu Shot Permission Form by Monday, October 12th, either by email ([email protected]) or fax (802-297-0020).
Please note that the Mountain Valley Health Center will be billing insurance companies for the vaccine. It is important that student accounts on Bear.net have the most up to date information and a copy of your child's health insurance card. Staff will also need a copy of the front and the back of your health insurance card when signing up for the flu shot.
Please note that this is a one-day flu clinic opportunity. Should your child be unable to attend on October 16th, please plan to make your own vaccine arraignments.

COVID-19 Testing
All winter term students are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test prior to their arrival on November 1.
Documentation of a negative PCR test must be submitted to Holly Wendell in the form of a PDF or screen shot by October 31.
All PCR testing must take place between October 26 and October 29. Please check your local testing site to confirm how long it will take to get your result and plan accordingly. Antigen test results will not be accepted.
Please note that receiving a negative test result does not negate the need for students to continue to quarantine or remain in green zones for the days leading up to arrival.
Students who are unable to follow this protocol will not be permitted on campus until they can complete their quarantine (if applicable) and testing.

Quarantine
All winter term students must follow the guidelines outlined by the State of Vermont to prepare for their arrival on November 1.
Red and Yellow Zones
Students who will be in a red or yellow zone prior to arrival on November 1 must quarantine as directed by the State of Vermont. Provided that no public transportation or overnight stays are part of their travel plans, these students may quarantine in the red or yellow zone and do not need to travel to Vermont to quarantine.
Green Zones
Students who will remain in only green zones for the two weeks prior to arrival and who will be using only a personal vehicle to travel to campus with no overnight stays, do not need to quarantine prior to arrival.
Students Requiring Public Transportation
Regardless of your location for the two weeks prior to your arrival, if you need to use public transportation as part of your travel plans, you will need to quarantine in Vermont upon your arrival.
