Stratton Mountain School Newsletter
Dear SMS Community,

We have made it to the final week! As seniors prepare for their last final exam tomorrow and undergraduates plan for their first exam on Tuesday, the SMS staff is putting the final pieces in place for the Head of School's Dinner and Graduation for the class of 2021.

After completing their exams, the senior class will be heading to Basin harbor Club to spend their final days as a class together on the shores of Lake Champlain. The graduates will return on Thursday to attend the Head of School's Dinner with their parents. We have involved the junior class in this event, and they will be taking a role making the dinner a memorable night for seniors!

Graduation will take place on Friday, June 11 at 10:00 am on Luckenbill Field. We will have seating for the families of the graduates, staff, and students who would like to attend. I know it will be a wonderful celebration for this talented class!

By the time the next newsletter is written, we will be on summer vacation. Some of our students will be heading to camp as early as next week to get summer started on snow. Camp protocols have been adjusted with new COVID guidelines, and vaccinated individuals will no longer need to participate in COVID testing. As we develop more new protocols and permissions for vaccinated individuals, it will be important that we have a record of the vaccination status for all students. Students who do not have a card on file will need to follow the rules for those who are not vaccinated, so please send a vaccine card as soon as the final dose has been administered. Please send a photo of your card to [email protected].

Please read carefully below to learn about our special bell schedule for Monday, the undergraduate exam schedule, and the schedule for moving out of the dorm. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Best regards,

Holly
Assistant Head of School

Ursa Returns!
Ursa 2021, Stratton Mountain School's literary magazine, is here! The publication began in 2012 and, after a hiatus, was reborn last year. This year's magazine contains 35 pieces of poetry, fiction, essay, painting, drawing, and photography from 24 students, laid out and edited by our three student editors -- Sofia DeBitetto '23, Harry Weinreich '24, and Addie Dennes '25. T

he magazine is available for viewing and download here and you can also purchase a hard copy (or 3!) from our online store that will be mailed directly to you... great for the coffee table!
Student of the Week
Victoria is the epitome of a committed and accountable student-athlete. She studies hard, trains harder, and refuses to take her foot off the metaphorical gas pedal...ever.

As her long-time coach and mentor Tommy Gambino put it in his Student of the Week presentation, "From storming back up to the top of the pipe, reworking her hypothesis for a podcast project or taking on someone much bigger than her in a soccer match, it's pretty clear Tor only has one gear."

Those who know Stine best describe her as a spirited and fearless young woman. In her senior year, Stine consistently demonstrates a level of maturity beyond her years.

"When it comes to her skiing, Stine is a true warrior in her perseverance through many setbacks," said one of her coaches. "She made the tough decision to stop racing until she had the injury under control, demonstrating a view for the long-term that is difficult even for the pros to summon."

Immunization Card Reminder
Many of our students have chosen to be vaccinated recently. This is terrific news for our community! It is important that we keep our vaccination records up to date, so I ask that you submit a copy of your child’s COVID-19 vaccine card as soon as it is available.

We realize that these vaccines are not being administered through your regular doctor’s office, and it may be a challenge to get a copy of your vaccine card at a later date if it is misplaced or damaged. Therefore, please send a scanned copy of the card to [email protected], and we will update your child’s medical record. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kate Boobar.

Summer Hiking Group
We've had such a great time hiking with all of you last fall and again this spring...we don't want the fun to end.

So, we are going to do a weekly hike all summer!

Some will be a bit longer than our usual hikes, and we will try to find some new trails to explore! Please let Katy know if you're interested in joining us as your schedule allows, and she will add you to the list.
