WHEELS TO WORK

A few weeks ago, a single father purchased this 1995 Dodge Dakota through the Council's Wheels to Work program. Now he can drive to work and earn some extra income moving furniture. Plus, with the pick-up's extended cab, he safely transports his three young children.

Wheels to Work, the Council's special car dealership, sells reliable, used cars below cost to low-income qualified buyers.

 Garden News!

Gardeners: Thank you for your wonderful gifts of fresh produce from your garden to our food bank. The Council's two raised bed gardens were fried by the heat wave, but they keep producing delicious cherry tomatoes. We plan to repeat the raised bed garden kit program next spring. Email us to get on the 2014 list.

Garden Photos Wanted

If you've set up a raised bed garden kit, please post your garden pictures on our facebook page. We love seeing your gardens.

PA WORKWEAR

The Council's PA WORKWEAR helps transform job seekers to job holders by providing career clothes. This Council program  has reduced the state's cost of providing garb for job seekers by 80%. Last year, the Council outfitted 216 people with professional attire.

Our New Web Site

Please share our excitement as we launch our NEW web site, Click here to visit. Now you can easily find information about the Council, about getting free food for preparing Community Meals, about volunteering, and about all the ways the Council has been working, for the past 66 years, to feed the hungry, clothe the needy, and share our love for God with neighbors in crisis. Thank you to Lancaster County Community Foundation for the grant and to the hard-working staff at LMI Advertising.

Prayers for Backpacks

In a few weeks, kids head back to school. Just thinking about paper and pocket folders as crisp and colorful as autumn leaves energizes us. No wonder we're collecting school supplies for students (Please put a prayer with your donation) in a Prayers for Backpacks school supply collection drive. Read more.

FEED THE NEED

Every day, our wonderful donors fill in the gaps in our Food and Clothing Banks. So what are the most pressing needs for August. In addition to our drive for school supplies for students heading back to school, here are the needs:

Clothing Bank:

New underwear including socks for men, women and children; Sneakers and everyday shoes in good condition and in all sizes; Pants and shirts for men in smaller sizes; for children, rain and snow boots, pjs,and white, light blue, and navy blue polo shirts without logos. Also needed sheets for all bed sizes and pillows.

Food Bank:

Because we can buy food at low cost, cash donations for food top our wish list, but we're grateful for ALL GIFTS. We especially welcome breakfast cereal, brown rice, dried and canned beans, juice, kid-friendly microwaveable entrees, fresh produce, and paper and plastic grocery bags.

PA WORKWEAR:

Career blouses; black, tan or khaki pants, polo shirts; and white and black button-down shirts. For men, work boots.
