Resident Art Show Lights Up the Night!

On Thursday, September 12th, The Boston Home hosted our annual Resident Art Show. The show was a huge success with outstanding work by more than 30 resident artists. This year, in a wonderful addition to the exhibition, the talented floral designers at Blooming Hope Foundation provided beautiful floral works of art inspired by resident paintings. Throughout the evening, residents, staff and guests enjoyed a fantastic performance by the Marlene Jazz Ensemble, as well as delicious hors d'oeuvres and the chance to win exciting raffle prizes. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for helping to make the evening possible, and our heartfelt congratulations to all of the artists, whose talent and creativity are so inspiring! The Boston Home is truly grateful to have received a grant of $2,500 from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its Festivals and Projects Program in support of this event!

If you missed the show, check out our online art gallery! All art sales directly benefit the resident artist.

Oldtime Baseball Game Raises Over $100,000 for The Boston Home

On Thursday, August 22nd at St. Peter's Field in Cambridge, fans enjoyed a picture perfect night of baseball in support of The Boston Home. Our deepest thanks to the organizers of the Abbot Financial Management Oldtime Baseball Game, Jonathan Papelbon and Lou Merloni, and to all of the outstanding high school and college ballplayers for their amazing support of The Boston Home, and to our truly inspiring community of residents, families, trustees, staff, volunteers, and friends who came together as our very own dream team to make this incredible night possible. Funds raised at the Oldtime Baseball Game will continue making a difference in the lives of our residents and outpatients throughout the year by supporting life-enhancing programs like our Wheelchair Enhancement Center, music therapy, adaptive watercolor program, and so much more!

This year, residents were able to travel to the Oldtime Baseball Game at St. Peter's Field in Cambridge in The Boston Home's new multi-wheelchair van.

Many thanks to EMD Serono for being The Boston Home game sponsor and for the generosity of wonderful employee volunteers!

The Boston Home Hosts Second Healing Story Session

On Sunday, September 22nd, The Boston Home hosted our second in a series of four Healing Story Sessions in collaboration with Health Story Collaborative. The mission of Health Story Collaborative is to keep the patient voice alive in healthcare and to harness the healing power of stories. Margaret and Beth are both talented writers and artists who worked for several months with Dr. Annie Brewster, founder and Executive Director of Health Story Collaborative to craft their stories in preparation for the live story share. We congratulate Margaret and Beth on sharing their lived experience through eloquent writing that is challenging, moving and uplifting. This project is supported by a grant from Mass Humanities Expand Massachusetts Stories, which supports projects that "collect, interpret and/or share narratives about the Commonwealth, with an emphasis on the voices and experiences that have gone unrecognized, or have been excluded from public conversation." If you missed the story session, you can read Margaret and Beth's stories below.

"Nancy, my medical providers, and our family were pretty worried. Since I didn’t remember any of this, I stubbornly wanted to ignore their concerns – as if they were inadmissible hearsay. I had bounced back." Read Margaret's Story

"I dictate my poems. The first one I wrote was called Floating Head. I wanted to describe how it felt to not feel half my body. I felt like a ghost. I wanted to get that message across..."
