Celebrating Volunteers!

Volunteer Spotlight

Jack Stuart

Celebrating 20 Years of Giving Back & Friendship

Volunteering has always been part of Jack Stuart's life. In fact, it was through his volunteer work at Boston Children's Hospital that Jack first learned about The Boston Home. Jack and his wife were parents to five children, three adopted and two biological. Their son James, whom they adopted at 20 months old, had suffered physical abuse that resulted in lasting mobility and neurological challenges as he grew to adulthood. At that time, Jack was a regular volunteer in the playroom at the Boston Children’s Hospital Neuro Unit. One of the staff there heard about Jack’s concerns for his son, and recommended that he look into The Boston Home. The recommendation was timely and much needed, as it was becoming too difficult for James to continue living at home. Soon, James became a resident of The Boston Home. Jack visited daily and quickly became part of The Boston Home community, as well. Read more...

TBH Runner Spotlight

Julie Lane-Korn & Family

Running is a family affair for Julie Lane-Korn. Julie has run a half marathon, her husband Kevin is a marathon runner, and their three daughters are getting into running as well. Her 8-year-old twins recently completed their first 5K, and her 6 year old daughter joined in the fun run portion of the race. So, when Julie heard that The Boston Home was putting together a team of runners, walkers, and rollers for The McCourt Foundation Boston Waterfront 5K, she knew her family would be happy to participate. Julie's mom, Janet, was a resident of The Boston Home from 2019 until she passed in December 2021. Julie says her family is so thankful for the difference The Boston Home made in the last few years of Janet's life, as her multiple sclerosis progressed. "We didn't really want to accept that our mom needed to move to long-term care, but once she moved to The Boston Home, she really flourished. Her quality of life was so much better with more social interaction and activities." Julie and her family also got to know The Boston Home community, as they visited from week to week. Her father Kevin and sister Christine will also be participating in the McCourt 5K, along with Christine's husband and family. The Boston Home is truly grateful to the Lane-Korn family for their ongoing support of our community. With the 5K just over a month away on Sunday, June 4th, the family has already raised an incredible $2,500 to support life-enhancing programs at The Boston Home. Thank you, Julie and family!
