Our Mission:
Supporting lifelong faith formation in the home and congregation.

From the President's Desk

Dear members of the Christian Education Network of the ELCA,

This will be my last message to you in the role of president for this organization. As I transition to the role of past-president, I reflect on the blessings I have received and am grateful for the opportunities I have had to represent the CENetwork of the ELCA through speaking opportunities, workshops, and facilitating meetings for the board.

It has been one awesome ride and I feel I have received so much more than I have given. The board is comprised of very talented, passionate lifelong faith leaders and as we welcome new board members and give thanks to those who have been serving over the past few years, I can only envision more energy and passion being poured in to the work we do to grow in our support and partner networks.

I will continue to support the CENetwork for years to come and encourage all of you to do the same through renewing memberships, gifting memberships, giving donations, and inviting others to join so that as we move forward, we do not lose momentum. This is an exciting time in the life of our church as we recognize the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. I am reminded often of our theme scripture, "...that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love." Colossians 2:2. This truly describes my experience on the board. I believe it was wisely chosen.

Many thanks for the opportunity to serve you.

May you have a blessed Christmas and happy New Year,

Debbie Streicher
President

Resources for Ministry

A Sanctified Art emerged as a ministry to respond to the fear and stifled imagination that prevented clergy and congregations from embracing creativity. Initially representing the art and ministry of Lisle Gwynn Garrity, A Sanctified Art expanded in January 2016 to become a collective of artists and creatives. They have a selection of liturgies and devotions, as well as coloring pages. Lenten resources will be available in early January. You can LIKE their Facebook page and follow them here.

February is Black History Month. The Crafting Freedom website provides educators with a user-friendly resource on the African-American experience during the era of slavery. Here you'll find ready-to-use lesson plans, videos, PDF slide shows, teacher tools, and student handouts that bridge the gap between the expanding scholarship on the 19th-century black experience and the need for this history to be more widely understood.

We Must Plant the Church: The Story of Lutherans in America (DVD)

This DVD series on the history of Lutherans in America transports learners through four centuries of the planting of the Lutheran church in this new land. Henry Muhlenberg provides the title for this series. His motto was Ecclesia Plantanda: "We must plant the church."
Facebook Book Study - Beginning Thursday, January 5!

We will gather thoughts and prayers from this wonderful author. The subtitle tells it all.  A Shared Pilgrimage.  As we celebrate Jesus among us we give special attention to sharing.  Sharing life, death and resurrection.  Sharing prayers, forming hearts. The back cover indicates, "Betty Cloyd has an intimate understanding of prayer.  She also has a clear understanding of children. In putting together these two 'loves', she has written a practical, helpful book for adults who care about children."  I look forward to the company of Jesus in prayer as we study this enlightening book, available on Amazon.com

This book study will be lead by Pastor Dave Wasemann, Christian Education Network, Region 8 Advocate.

Look for the book study posted in our Facebook group. An introduction will be posted today, Thursday, December 29!

Prayer Pause

Prayer For Strength and Wisdom

Grant me the strength from day to day
To bear what burdens come my way.
Grant me throughout this bright New Year
More to endure and less to fear.
Help me live that I may be
From spite and petty malice free.
Let me not bitterly complain
When cherished hopes of mine prove vain,
Or spoil with deeds of hate and rage
Some fair tomorrow's spotless page.
Lord, as the days shall come and go
In courage let me stronger grow.

Lord, as the New Year dawns today
Help me to put my faults away.
Let me be big in little things;
Grant me the joy which friendship brings.
Keep me from selfishness and spite;
Let me be wise in what is right.
A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye.
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
