As I was merrily driving the lawn mower my purposeful bliss was interrupted as I saw them step out of their car. Decision time: take another loop around the property or head back to the driveway…a challenging dilemma for sure. And then, another character enters the scene: Joe, my handyman who is helping with a home improvement project, comes walking out of the house to cut a board. The season between the World Day of Prayer and St. Francis' feast day is designated as the season of creation. The Episcopal Church offers a variety of resources for celebrating this season - including the liturgy most of us may be familiar with, The Blessing of the Animals. ECW Memorial Roll

Annually, each parish submits to the diocesan ECW Treasurer the names of any parish women who have died between September 1st of the previous year and September 1st of the current year to be included in our Book of Remembrance, which is on display during our annual ECW Conference. The names are read during our conference service. Please print or type names in capital letters- first name, maiden name and last name, and email them to Diane Weatherford.

Please send names no later than October 9, 2023


All Memorial Gifts accompanying name(s) will be added to the ECW College Scholarship Fund. Make checks payable to Episcopal Church Women with Memorial Roll in the memo line, and mail to: ECW-Diocese of Alabama, Diane Weatherford, 3917 Montevallo Rd., Mountain Brook, AL 35213.

Episcopal institutions are invited to apply for evangelism grants to support local and regional efforts to grow Episcopal ministries, resources, and gatherings. The application is available here, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 13. If you would like help filling out the application please contact Claire Cotten, Director of Mission Funding. The grants committee will consider proposals for up to $2,000 for individual faith communities and up to $8,000 for multi-church, diocesan, provincial, and other regional collaborations. A total of $125,000 is available for this funding cycle.

Young Adult Retreat

October 6 - 8, Camp McDowell

The Rev. Mary Alice Mathison joins us in leading the Young Adult Retreat at Camp McDowell. A Sewanee and Virginia Theological Seminary grad, Mary Alice has served as a priest in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast for the last nine years. Reflecting on her travels as a young/ youngish adult, Mary Alice will share with us how hitting the road and trails encourages us to venture outside our comfort zones and encounter the sacred and divine love of God revealed in creation around us and within. Join us at Camp McDowell for the Alabama Four-Day Academy, September 25-29. The theme for this retreat is “Healing a Broken Heart”, and participants will delve into this rich topic with faculty Jerry Webber (faculty member at Houston Theological Seminary) and Mary Earle (Episcopal priest, author and spiritual director).

"We Gather Together" Choral Work

On September 24th at 5pm, Saint Thomas, Birmingham will host the premier of a choral work by our Music Director Jennifer Hartsell titled We Gather Together. Pieces will be played by Jennifer and sung by the Saint Thomas choir and special guests. This is a free event open to the public. Questions can be directed to the parish office (205-969-2700).
