“Are you doing alright?’ I asked. The response came measured and thoughtful, “Actually, I’m finding myself in a pretty challenging place these days. For reasons that are completely unclear to me, one of my oldest friends is not returning my calls.
Cursillo (Cur–SEE’–yo) is a Spanish word meaning “short course”, and is a weekend where you can experience living and sharing with others in a loving and caring Christian community. A Cursillo weekend is open to all adult Episcopalians, men and women, married or single.

Learn more about becoming part of the Cursillo community.
The next Cursillo weekend is April 20, 2023. Are you interested in attending Cursillo #227 at Camp McDowell? Contact your rector, or visit the Alabama Cursillo website for more information.
Everyone is invited to participate. This annual pilgrimage begins at noon on Good Friday, April 7 in Linn Park, and ends at Kelly Ingram Park. We will travel approximately 15 blocks, and the pilgrimage will last 90 minutes. You are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes.
The pilgrimage is sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Church
and Greater Birmingham Ministries

AROUND OUR DIOCESE
YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS
Young People Paint Birmingham is scheduled to make a comeback this summer!
Monday, July 24 at 4:30pm to Friday, July 28, 2023 at 10:00am
This event, last held in 2019, is a diocesan-wide service week in Birmingham for youth entering 7th-9th grades. We partner with Urban Ministries for hands-on experience scraping and painting houses for people in the area who cannot afford to pay for this work to be done, and have program and sleep at St. Stephen's Church. Adult staff (college, young adult, or youth minister) and CITs (11th-12th grade youth) are also needed. Adult staff who chaperone overnight will be paid a small stipend.
Diocesan youth workers are invited to a sabbath retreat held April 13-14 at Camp McDowell. This retreat is intended for youth workers to spend time resting and relaxing near the end of a program year. This retreat is paid for by the diocese and offered free of charge to youth workers. There will be lots of free time as well as (optional) opportunities to participate in group activities. Lodging will be in Scott House (shared accommodations). Participants have the option of staying overnight or coming Thursday only. Sign up here.
CAMP MCDOWELL
We are celebrating by inviting everyone to Camp McDowell from May 26-28th for many fun activities. This is the same weekend as Primary 1 and we will be joining them for an epic Pasture Party on Saturday night and a celebratory closing church service on Sunday morning.

This weekend will be an amazing opportunity to connect with old and new camp friends, and reminiscence about your Camp McDowell memories while making new ones.

We are offering many different registration options for those who want day passes as well s those who would like to come for the whole weekend.

Programming and Activities include a wide range of options like hiking, farm tours, speakers, canoeing, McDowell Environmental Center programs, ropes courses, etc.
