Jimmy
By Bishop Prior
He moved as someone who was comfortable in his own skin. His cheek to cheek smile conveyed both a warmth and genuineness. When he began to speak, he did so in a way that many would find slow and measured. Yet through his articulation there was no question of both his intelligence and passion. The totality of the experience was of being in the presence of someone with deep conviction and unbending faith.
However, with all of that, there were many who perceived him as suspiciously unconventional. This translated into a perception that he lacked the capacity to lead.
Then he made this statement, “My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.”

"Lent is really an invitation from our loving, heavenly, Father to come home. He invites us to surrender the good and the bad of our lives, the worry, the regrets, the fear, the sadness, the pain, and our secrets and shame to him. To deliberately lay down those things that stand in the way of us walking in peace and love with God and each other." -Bishop G, Ash Wednesday service at the Cathedral Church of the Advent
We hope you will take a few minutes and look at the Lenten resources available on our website, where you will find books, poetry, calendars and more, all designed to encourage and guide you on your journey home.

The Episcopal Diocese of Alabama is offering "Courageous Conversation", an in-person training for clergy and lay leaders as we work to create pathways to racial reconciliation. We encourage a clergy member and a lay leader be in attendance from every parish. This one-day in-person training is an experience that acquaints individuals with a set of tools known as The Protocol, to engage, sustain and deepen dialogues about race.
For more information contact the Missioner for Racial Healing and Pilgrimage, Bre Mitchell.

Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is open to all, and especially designed to help white people talk with other white people about the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day, while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
Our two dioceses have different
experiences with race, both historically and in the present, and our hope is that collaboration in shared Sacred Ground circles will offer opportunities for deeper reflection through expanded perspective, and ultimately for healing.

The Task Force for Creation Care shared dozens of dogwood, red bud, and pine seedlings at Convention. These trees, once planted, will be a part of the Communion Forest, a global initiative comprising local activities of forest protection, tree growing and eco-system restoration undertaken by provinces, dioceses and individual churches across the Anglican Communion to safeguard creation. If you have planted one of those seedlings, please let us know by completing this brief form. We'd love to see a photo of your planted seedling! Please send photos to communications@dioala.org.
