LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

This summer's Port Jeff Chamber activities and events have gained  more popularity, interest and attendance than ever before. Some  may ask, how is it that a local Chamber can have such a great impact  on the members they serve? Many of you may not know how the  Port Jeff Chamber differs from other Chambers and organizations  in many ways.

We are one of the few local chambers that have their own building  in a highly visible area. Our office is visited by many people on a daily  basis seeking information about our Village and members businesses.

The chamber employs a full time director and two part timers who  work EVERY DAY on ways that they can further promote their business  members to their community. The events that we have throughout the  year pay for the salaries and overhead on our building. Every penny  that we earn goes back to our members in the form of this benefit.

Today it is more important than ever to have ways that you can  make new and maintain old personal contacts with your friends and  business associates. Being a member of your local chamber of commerce  is one way to do this. Please join the rest of us who have found that  being a member of the Chamber is an essential part of your businesses  success.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Jim Karras
President

Congratulations to our PJF Library for their efforts in creating their 'Little Free Library' boxes for the community to have access to FREE books to read.  Locations at the Miller Place Mount Sinai Historical Society, East Beach, and Rocketship Park!

In cooperation with our business community the Chamber has established formally 2 new off shoots of the Chamber!  The Pro Port Jefferson Association has
been launched to promote and protect the economic interests of the Port Jefferson food and beverage service industry.  They will strive to maintain a favorable business environment which will hopefully deliver tangible value and benefit to their colleagues and their patrons. Their future plans may include a breakfast crawl and a special offer during the Chamber's holiday crawl! The Port Jefferson Retailers Association was started to assist our broader retail community with marketing and promotional activities and by creating a stronger connectivity from merchant to merchant. To point, this season they have developed 'Port-oploy' a game to get the consumer into shops with the chance to win valued product prizes.  Game finishes November 15th.

Your favorite Chamber employees participated in a 'chef's cook-off' in July sponsored by Chamber Partner-Atria of South Setauket.  Their Chef David
competed against Barbara Ransome and Maryanne Douglas.  All cooks had to use the mandatory ingredient of corn!  As they demonstrated their culinary expertise the residents of Atria got a full show and tastings of all the delicious food prepared. All were winners!

Ribbon cuttings were done for our NEW Chamber Retailers, please welcome: Red Shirt Comics, Water 2 Moon Spray Tan Boutique, East Main on Main (donuts), and Kilwins.

To support our Chamber partner Mather Hospital's campaign of 'Paint Port Pink', Chamber members joined in for a fundraiser event at the 'Muse Paint Bar' on Main Street in Port Jefferson for an evening of wine, paint & fun!

SUMMARY OF EVENTS

Catching up with end of the summer events that Chamber hosted and our most current!
The Gardens & Landscape of Port Jefferson had a spectacular weather day with approximately 80 attendees!  There were 6 private home gardens, a collection of gardens along E. Main Street and the Chamber acted as a hospitality center. The Chamber hosted a local artist and a special garden demonstration was done on how to make a fairy garden!
At the end of July the Chamber in collaboration with the 3-Village, North Brookhaven, and Smithtown Chambers sponsored an evening of networking at the Old Field Club.  Lite snacks were available and over 125 attendees came.

In August for the second time our Chamber in partnership with the Patchogue Chamber held a networking event, 'Summer Sunset Soirée' at Schafer's in Port Jefferson.  There were 75 attendees who mingled on the top deck, where there was an open buffet.  During the event a fun ice-breaking game was played, where teams had to write down as many things that each Village had in common!

Moving along to September the Chamber in collaboration with Dans Papers hosted the 10th annual 'The Taste @ Port Jefferson'.  Wildly successful and having Dan's Papers on board brought the event to a new level of showmanship. Supporting a 50x100 clear ceiling tent the tasting space was expanded to include outside.  'New Life Crisis' a very popular band provided music for the entire evening.  A special VIP Lounge was created upstairs in the PJ Village Center where there were premium offerings of wine, beer and of course food. Many thanks to our Chair Ken Kroncke and to our Chamber volunteers!

Unfortunately the Village's 'Harvest Festival' was canceled due to bad weather, but the chamber did support the scarecrow walk on E. Street which still can be view by all.
