LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Summer is still with us and we will enjoy it until the sunniest of ends!  As always the season has been busy. The Chamber in cooperation with the Pro Restaurant group introduced the new initiative, 'Port Jefferson Happy Hour Series'. 17 participating restaurants/eateries opened their doors to provide live music and special food and drink offers! Well received and there are still 2 dates left, September 12thand October 10th!

We had special visitors this summer:
  • Melissa & Doug Toy Co. from Connecticut hosted their employee outing here in the Village. Over 400 guests arrived as walk-ons on the ferry, who shopped and ate for 5 hours!. Our retailers and restaurateurs were generous with offers and M&D visitors were very pleased and said they will come BACK!! This type of economic stimulus is what the Chamber needs. We assisted them with hospitality and helped arranged their day.
  • US Navy Academy had 50 midshipmen enjoying our Village and the Village sponsored a BQQ with music. The Chamber gave their Commanding Officer a special gift of a PJ Tee Shirt and Baseball Cap!
  • The Amistad arrives from August 25th - September 2nd.  Historic slave ship and will offer public viewings.
Along with our own fun events, our Ducks game and our new member wine & cheese meet & greet, the Chamber continues to be connected to all of their partners. We also attended the opening of the NEW performance stage down at Harbor Front Park in honor and memory of Jill Nees-Russell, a beloved community member whose life was cut much too short!

The Chamber is collaborating with other groups to create a Fall Art Walk, scheduled from October 7th - 21st and is working with our Chamber artists in a mural 'anti-graffiti' program to be launch in spring of 2020. Not to forget there are plans in the works to develop a relationship with the other side of the 'pond'-Bridgeport! To create a 'passport' ticket inviting visitors to enjoy our community and then Bridgeport, as they are going through a true Renaissance era!
Please support our 6th Annual Dragon Boat Race Festival September 14th and mark your calendars for our 12th Annual 'Taste @ Port Jefferson' eating and drinking event October 17th!

Thank you,

Mary Joy Pipe

President - Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce

Owner of The East End Shirt Company * Proud Member of our Chamber since 1979

Welcome the NEW restaurant Due Baci, the old Graceful Rose at 154 W. Broadway! Owners Maria & Patrick Aubry are local residents with restaurant experience! It is with great anticipation to embrace this Italian restaurant/bar to our community!

In addition the old Brewology restaurant has a new owner and name: Port Jeff Bistro & Pub, owners Christine & Bob Nyholm, who also own Yogo Delish.  We welcome them and wish then much luck and success!

Speaking of restaurants Newsday's 'Explore LI' section dated July 11th highlighted and mentioned 20 eateries and restaurants in a full cover 5 page spread named, 'Sound Bites'. Great plug to our restaurant community and the Village!

CONGRATULATIONS to our President Mary Joy Pipe on 40 years of being in business- East End Shirt Company! Her block party celebration was on August 17th featuring games, face painting, music and the LI Volkswagon Club Car Show.  A special ribbon cutting was on August 16.

Thank you to Stephanie Treverton of HSBC for her service as a Director on the Chamber Board. She has had to step down due to additional work responsibilities, but will remain a supporter and friend to the Chamber.

Thank you, Maria Palmar for helping to beautify your new location on E. Main Street. The exceptional window planter boxes that were installed are stunning with their cascading vine and colorful annuals.

Port Jefferson Library in partnership with the PJ Rotary installed a 'Little Library' in front of  the Chamber Office.  Premise: you take a book and then leave a book!  So far 3 cases of books have been gone through. Great job!!
