LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

harbor skating

So far and cross your fingers our winter weather has not been so bad, let's hope for this to continue!  2017 is carrying over new initiatives the Chamber enacted in 2016 which have proven to be successful for the benefit our Chamber Partners.  We are continuing to alternate our general membership meetings from AM to PM, to encourage all our partners with different work schedules to attend meetings.  The evening meetings provide networking opportunities in a more social atmosphere.   New for this coming year is having more interfacing with our restaurant community and we welcome Steve Sands from Pasta Pasta as an ad-hoc member to the Chamber's Board of Directors.  It is important to listen to all the different perspectives in our business district so that we all can work together cohesively.

Our calendar for 2017 if full and plans have already been made for celebrating with our sister chambers for joint networking events.  Three Village and North Brookhaven chambers will join us in July and then Patchogue in August.  These get-togethers provide an exchange of common topics that are universal with chambers of commerce.

The Chamber will be installing their new BOD in February with 3 new directors who will round the board's diversity in the representation of our business community.

So 2017 looks to be another productive year and the Chamber welcomes all suggestions from their membership!  Wishing you all good health and prosperity!

Happy New Year,
Suzanne Velazquez
President-Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce

Congratulations to Rob & Tony Gitto our Chamber Partners who received the honor of being recognized by the Port Times Record Newspaper as people of the year, for being business developers who go the extra mile for their community.

Welcome to Ocean 88-Asian Fusion Steakhouse & Bar restaurant located in the back half of the Harbor Square Mal. Mabel Ching and staff are open for business with 10 hibachi stations, a formal dining room and great looking bar.  So please check out!

Winter farmers market is up and running at the PJ Village Center on Sundays from 10-2 pm.

Sorry to see our Chamber Partner Dusty Attic closing their door and consolidate their efforts to their Patchogue location.  We wish them continued success with their furniture refinishing business.

Have your noticed the new and improved look of our iconic tax building on the corner of E. Main St. and Main?  Great new windows and façade enhancements! The Antonoiu family is doing a beautiful renovation on this historic building, thank you.

HOLIDAY BREAKFAST

With 50 attendees the Chamber's holiday breakfast was GREAT!  This year our host was Danfords and we dined with the view our deep water harbor.  Their signature breakfast buffet consisted of: bakery basket of danish, croissants & scones, assorted bagels, seasonal fruits & berries, scrambled eggs with fine herbs, home-fired potatoes, link sausage, hardwood smoked bacon & french toast.  Many thanks to the new management for their generosity and holiday spirit.

Special entertainment was provided by concert cellists-Kevin Charlestream, which created a warm and festive ambiance.

New this year was the collection of $165 dollars in food cards.  The money was split and donated to the PJ Rotary and PJ Lions to assist them both in funding for their food baskets they give away during the holiday season.

SANTA PARADE & WORKSHOP & CHAMBER'S TREE

This year the parade was HUGE!  With the sunny and cool weather it lend itself for more attendees as well as parade participants.  The LI Street Rods were out in force and had an excellent showing of their vehicles!  Santa arrived properly in a horse drawn carriage with our favorite Pinto decked out in holiday glitter and sleigh bells.  Thank you Jimmy Miller for always supporting this event with your carriage and horse Oreo!

The parade finished at Santa's workshop where he received all children for photo opportunities and he gave out candy canes.  As dusk approached the lights of the Village glowed adding a special touch welcoming all the holiday visitors.  Recognition and thanks to Tad Cox who plays Santa and to Pat Darling and her elves that create the exceptional venue for the workshop.  It is through their efforts and the partnering with the Chamber that makes this holiday tradition so successful.

In addition to these traditions the Chamber for the second year in a row decorated a 'Chamber' tree for the Village's Festival of Trees at the Village Center, which were all on display for the month of December.  A façade was built of the Chamber's front and used as a back drop for our tree which was covered with Chamber partner's handmade ornaments.  Thank you to the committee; Joy, Shari, Carol and Joanne, good little elves!
