Dear Friends & Family of Oak Grove,

We want to take a moment to share some upcoming staffing changes taking place at Oak Grove.

Hayley Whitley has resigned from her role as Oak Grove’s Worship Leader.  Hayley’s last Sunday leading worship at Oak Grove will be on October 4^th.  We are grateful for Hayley’s ministry and leadership over the past four years, especially her faithful worship leadership during COVID.  We will celebrate Hayley’s ministry at Oak Grove following 11am worship on October 4^th.

We give thanks to God for Hayley and for the ways her gifts helped us draw near to God through music and worship.  Please join us in lifting Hayley in prayer during this season of transition.

As we look ahead, we are excited for what God is doing next in the life of music and worship at Oak Grove as we welcome Rob Coxwell and the Coxwell family to Oak Grove beginning Sunday, October 11^th.  Rob will serve as Oak Grove’s Director of Worship & Arts, leading the Praise Band and Sound Booth.  We also welcome Aggie Miller to the role of Worship Leader, beginning September 27th.  Both Rob and Aggie will also be supporting music for our traditional worship service.

We give thanks to God for Hayley, Rob, and Aggie and look forward to seeing how God moves in this new season.

Meet the Coxwell Family

We are Rob and Amy Coxwell, and we are incredibly excited and humbled to join Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Rob has been leading worship since the age of 13 and has spent his entire life in the Hampton Roads area. As the son of military parents, he grew up experiencing different communities and churches, but music and worship have always remained an important part of his life. Rob went to school for Music Education and currently serves as the Orchestra Director at Crestwood Middle School.

Amy is also a lifelong music educator and currently teaches at Indian River High School in Chesapeake. Music and ministry have been a huge part of our lives, and our story together actually began while leading worship at youth retreats.

We have been longtime worship leaders within the United Methodist Church. Amy grew up at Deep Creek United Methodist Church, and a few years after we were married, we began leading worship at Great Bridge United Methodist Church. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to serve alongside many wonderful people and experience the joy of watching worship bring people together and draw them closer to God.

Our greatest joy, however, is our family. We have two children, Jacob and Madelyn Jane (MJ).

Jacob is 15 and a freshman at Grassfield High School. He enjoys playing viola in the orchestra and loves board and card games.

MJ is in seventh grade and keeps us busy with her love of music and softball. She plays trombone in her school band and plays competitive softball.

As a family, we are excited to become part of the Oak Grove community. We look forward to getting to know each of you, serving alongside you, and using the gifts God has given our family to help create meaningful opportunities for worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve Oak Grove United Methodist Church and are excited to see what God has in store for this next chapter

Meet Aggie Miller...

I was raised in a small Presbyterian church. I grew up singing in the choir and fell in love with worship early. After moving to Norfolk, my family joined a Methodist church where I became part of the praise band, deepening my desire to serve in music ministry. I have played piano since the age 8 and cello for more than 30 years. When we arrived at Oak Grove UMC, I knew we had found our home.

I have worked in education for 19 years and currently serve as Principal for a regional special education program with the Chesapeake Public School System. My greatest joy is leading worship—helping our congregation experience how the Holy Spirit moves among us and draws us closer to God.
