Where Are You Now?

Don't become a lost shepherd. Take five minutes and let us know what you are doing and when you do it.  We now have a new link on our website for active duty, retired, and former chaplains to report your activities, services, speeches and other noteworthy acts.  The online report is found under "Membership" on the top of our web page.
Lost Shepherds

Over the years, we lose contact with members who move, change their e-mail address, or die. If you know where any of these members are today, please let us know. We want them back!

Nurture the Living
Members of the MCA
may have an interest in sponsoring one or more military family support initiatives as represented by the award winning documentary, Gold Star Children.
This documentary features the stories of children whose parents have been killed in action from Vietnam to Afghanistan and Iraq.  Will you please help with the distribution of this important educational tool?
Below are three programs that are seeking corporate support to purchase copies of the documentary for outreach to their respective interests.
Each DVD costs $9.00

Care for the Wounded
Ed Brogan has brought our attention to the website for Truth and Grace Media - dedicated to supporting wounded warriors and their families. Once each month, Leslie Santee, a friend of Ed's writes a blog that might be of interest and help as we all strive to care for the wounded.  Click on Truth and Grace Ministries and then go to "Newsletters" to read her blog.
Honor the Fallen
Chaplains give honor to the fallen and care for the bereaved as often as the need arises.  This website (iCasualties) is a source for the names of those who have died in combat.  We commend the fallen to the Almighty, and hold their loved ones in our prayers.

MCA: Mentor - Connect - Advocate

Ash Wednesday - March 5, 2014
Greetings from the MCA!
The Spring issue of The Military Chaplain is now in the mail. In spite of all our efforts at perfection, I did discover that New Life Members were actually listed as New Annual Members. My apologies.
We have received nominations for most of our officer and Executive Committee positions, and you will find their names and photographs below.
About that "Where Are You Now?" notice in the left column. I urge each of our members to use the hotlink to report everything you do in support of chaplaincy, military members, veterans and families. If you participate in a public ceremony, address a congregational group or civic organization, serve in another veteran service organization, write a letter to the editor, or anything else related to our purposes, please let us know. When it comes to our annual renewal of participation in the Combined Federal Campaign, your efforts (no matter how small you consider them to be) add up to substantial support of our reputation and standing as the Voice of Chaplaincy.
Remember, too, we provide two ways in which to leave a lasting legacy and/or address issues facing chaplains in today's environment: Voices of Chaplaincy and The Military Chaplain. We urge you to submit your articles regularly.

War's Impact
Chaplain (CDR) David Thompson, CHC, USNR (Ret.) writes: As a member of MCA, I thought you and MCA Chaplains might appreciate this excellent U Tube program of Moyers & Company with Bill Moyers interviewing Karl Marlantes and the impact of war upon his life. It is quite a powerful and insightful program that chaplains and clergy who work with returning combat veterans and their families would profit from viewing.

Once in awhile a truth teller emerges that pulls back the veil on that experience,  as in Bill Moyer's U-Tube interview with Karl Marlantes entitled: What is it Like to Go to War? It really gets at what we are asking of someone to risk life and limb for us in the military.
Native American Veterans
I am a Cherokee Veteran of Iraq turned grad student and am hoping you would be willing to help me out with a survey I am doing about Native American Veterans and their attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions towards PTSD. You do not need to have been deployed or have PTSD to do the survey. Also, for the purposes of this survey Native American means anyone who is identified as being at least part Native Alaskan, Native American, Native Hawaiian, Native Guamanian, or Native Puerto Rican. Click on this link to the survey
Please consider filling this survey out, passing it along to others (such as fellow chapter members, friends from the service, etc.) or both.

Sincerely,
Greg Urquhart

Holocaust Memorial
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center's upcoming program, From Generation to Generation: The Legacy Continues will be held on June 8 at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY. They are trying to reach as many WWII veterans as they can to invite them to attend the conference as their guests.

They are particularly interested in inviting Chaplains who served in WWII's European theater or in the immediate post-war era in Europe, specifically those that were part of camp liberations, served in DP camps and/or with any of the displaced populations.

Please let your friends know and plan to be present if you are in the area.

REQUEST FOR INTERVIEWS
Journey for Miracles

Pete Petree asks your help

My project is called a Journey For Miracles and I will be traveling all across the lower 48 states by car to interview priests, military and first responder chaplains about miracles they have personally witnessed.  Ultimately I want to compile these stories into a book which will provide inspiring and heartwarming stories filled with examples of God's grace, love and perfect timing.

There is a great example on my site:  www.journeyformiracles.com and the story is called Janice and Mike - My First Miracle.

What I'm asking of chaplains is that you schedule a time on my journey for me to meet with you and hear your story. I've created a special link for chaplains to use: http://www.journeyformiracles.com/index.php/priest-contact

Would you be willing to help me with this? Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to respond by email or reach out by phone (my contact info is below).

Pilgrimage
Franciscan Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi
May 28-June 5, 2014

Veterans of the Military
Your service to our country has been one of sacrifice. It has taken its toll on your body, spirit, emotions and your faith. Re-entering society after living in a life-threatening place is a most difficult journey for a person to make.  It is a journey of making sense out of situations that seem senseless. Let us help you.

or Call 414.427.0570 x223

All Christian denominations are welcome. The faith stance will be based on Franciscan Spirituality.  This pilgrimage is open to both men and women who have served in the military. Spouses are welcomed.
