Spring Cleaning at the Inn
As any homeowner knows, routine maintenance projects are essential. Our annual spring cleanup actually started last fall when we replaced the entire roof of the inn. That was a large project that will ensure that our guests stay dry for years to come! But it's not the only project we've been undertaking as we head into spring. In addition to the new roof, we are working on getting new and improved gutters installed, repairing and repainting all of the stucco, and adding new "windows" like the one you see here - look for these new murals along the side of the building in the guest parking area the next time you visit.
Picture of the Month
This peaceful wintery photo was taken on the morning of January 13th, the first snowfall of the year in Cape May. Luckily, we haven't had much more snow since then. And we are hopeful that the groundhog's prediction for an early spring is accurate!
Baby, It's Cold Outside
Did you know that The Mission Inn specializes in babymoons for expecting parents? If you're counting down the weeks until your new addition arrives, give yourself a special getaway to focus on each other. Chef's Corner: Truffles
Looking for a last minute treat to make for your Valentine? Chef Leslie has you covered - in chocolate! Click here to see her super easy recipe for super delicious chocolate truffles to share with someone you love.

And in case you were wondering what exactly a "truffle" is, here's a brief history of this decadent dessert. A French invention, the original chocolate truffle was simply a ball of ganache, chocolate and cream that was created by mistake back in the 1920's. It was named after the precious black truffle fungus because of its physical resemblance. Today you can find all kinds of truffles, often flavored and rolled in cocoa or other delicious coatings such as nuts or sprinkles. For adventurous taste buds, try rolling them in peppercorns, sweet curry, or even paprika. Enjoy!
Back Where They Belong
Earlier this month we were contacted by a friend of a friend who was in town cleaning out their mother's house to put it on the market. And among the items that were for sale were some bookcases that had originally belonged to Nelson Z. Graves. If you've heard the history of the inn you'll recognize that name as the real estate tycoon who built this mission-style property back in 1912. The bookcases and a few books from Mr. Graves' private library were purchased at his bankruptcy sale shortly after 1117 New Jersey Avenue was built. After more than 100 years, they are now back at the inn and will be on display in the near future. Welcome home!
Music at The Mission
We have just four more house concerts this season! Next up is this weekend's special Valentine's concert with singer-songwriter duo The Honeyhawks which is already SOLD OUT! We can't wait to hear their romantic melodies fill the inn on Saturday night.

If you don't already have your tickets reserved for The Honeyhawks, you can email us at info@missioninn.net to be added to the wait list for this show. No promises, but we sometimes get last minute cancelations.

And don't miss out on the rest of this season's incredible house concert lineup and a chance to be part of an intimate music experience filled with songs and stories. Check out the rest of our schedule and RSVP before our final three shows sell out as well!
Local Cape May favorites The Honeyhawks bring their romantic melodies to The Mission Inn on Saturday, February 16 at 7 pm.
The Chivalrous Crickets will perform the music of Robin Hood on Saturday, March 23 at 7 pm.
Making a Difference
When we decided to call Cape May our home two and a half years ago, we made a commitment to not only be the best innkeepers we could be, but also to get involved in the community. That has come in all different shapes and sizes - we support local businesses, we cross-promote special events in town, and we volunteer to help various organizations whenever we can. One of these groups - the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (or MAC) - has decided to honor Wendy as their February Volunteer of the Month for her work with their website team. She is helping to identify improvements to the current MAC website and providing guidance on the development of a new, modern, and mobile-friendly site due to launch later this year.
Things to do in Cape May This Winter
Cape May offers a variety of things for visitors to do throughout the winter, even after the holiday season. In addition to shopping in our eclectic downtown stores, browsing our antique centers, taking a trolley ride, walking the area's nature trails, and enjoying our award-winning local wineries, breweries, and distilleries, check out some of these special events coming up on the calendar:

This winter we've decided to give yoga a try. Since our "prime time" sports years are in the rear view mirror we have been exploring ways to maintain our flexibility, stay (get!) in shape, and plug into some mindful meditation on a regular basis. We're taking some private lessons this winter to get started and look forward to graduating into more intense group classes by the spring. When we do, there will certainly be plenty of options around town as Cape May has a number of yoga studios to choose from. If you're looking for a way to channel your inner yogi during your next stay, check out any of these local studios. Most offer classes year-round and all offer drop-in rates. Namaste!
