Dancing with the Stars Raises $65,000 for Seniors in Need

The Pantry of Broward's 7th Annual Dancing with the Stars of Broward event was held recently at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. Five celebrity dancers paired with professional counterparts in this glittery fundraising effort that yielded much-needed funds to help combat hunger.

Celebrity dancers included James Gregory of Maguires Hill 16, Alexandra Labarr of Best Roofing, Katie Logan from Premier Beverage Company, Geph Scarr from Scarr Insurance Group and Tanya Williams from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.

Major sponsors included the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Senior Medical Associates, Premier Beverage Company, Publix, Peter and Heidi Huizenga, Memorial Healthcare System and Alternative Home Health Care.

The Pantry is grateful to all those who supported this event and hopes you can be involved in the 8th Annual Dancing with the Stars of Broward, scheduled for May 21, 2016.

Matching $$ Magic

How do you take $5,000 and turn it into $10,000? It's easier than you might think. Just ask our friends at Senior Medical Associates; they recently sponsored a matching funds drive that effectively doubled any donations The Pantry of Broward received during the month of March up to $5,000.

Senior Medical Associates is a 12-facility Broward County-based medical practice specializing in the care of senior citizens. Their creativity and generosity not only helped us reach that match -- well ahead of schedule, we might add -- but exceed it, as well.

We're looking for more matching fund opportunities, so if you're interested in exploring a matching grant with us, please contact Trudy Reilly, Director of Development, at 954.358.1481.

We're Grateful for Great Grants

Two notable charitable entities recently showed their faith in The Pantry's mission by funding large grants for our senior housing food delivery program.

"The Jim Moran Foundation granted $50,000 to help offset the expense of securing and delivering 55-pound boxes of food to our clients each month," explains The Pantry of Broward's CEO, Penny Loughan. "Just weeks before honoring us with that grant, they also sent a stop-gap donation of $7,500 when they realized our shelves were bare. We can't thank them enough for their confidence and kindness."

In addition, the Walmart Foundation issued a check for $35,000, also earmarked for the food delivery program.

"We are thrilled that such key philanthropic players recognize and value the good and vital work that The Pantry of Broward does," says EJ Spector, The Pantry's board chair.

School Supplies Needed
for Our Grandchildren

It won't be long before you'll be seeing great sales for school supplies and when you do, please keep in mind that The Pantry needs donations of everything from backpacks to calculators for the grandchildren being raised by the seniors we serve.

Shortly before school starts, we invite these kids -- ranging in age from 4 to 17 -- to come "shop" for their school supplies at The Pantry, enabling them to pick out the styles, sizes and colors of items they need to begin school on a level playing field with their fellow students.

We can't offer this experience without your generosity. Simply drop-off your donations at The Pantry and we'll make sure they get into the right hands. Questions? Please contact
