RIDE FOR A RESCUE
Annual Charity Trail Ride

It's time for the 6th Annual Pegasus "Ride for a Rescue," Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the beautiful Miars Arabian Ranch in Murchison, Texas. We'd like to welcome all of our supporters, riders and non-riders alike, to come out and  enjoy the day.

For riders, bring  your horse and join us for a full day of horse fun! We will explore the ranch on a nice, easy-paced, guided ride through wooded trails and along gorgeous, open hay meadows. There will be a "poker run" for prizes, as well as fun horse contests and games for prizes. Non-riders are encouraged to come and enjoy the day with us and participate in the poker run and games. Following the ride, we will have a hot catered meal from  Torchy's Tacos  with complimentary drinks ( beer, wine, water and soda ).

Our Pegasus shop will be open for you to pick up the latest  Pegasus-logo apparel. You don't want to miss out on our newest fall fashions!

This event is limited to 50 riders, and so register today! Riders and non-riders must register in advance.  For riders, if you register before October 21st, you will receive a discount.

~Anthony LaSpina~
Meet Our New Trainer

The Pegasus Project proudly announces the arrival of our newest trainer, Anthony LaSpina. We actually like to refer to our trainers as "horse developers" because our goal is to develop the horses' natural talents and to bring them along with kind, thoughtful leadership. Anthony fits our ideal model because he is blessed with a quiet temperament and strives to always see things from the horse's perspective.

Anthony was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and began riding at the age of seven. He grew up competing hunter jumper. At the age of fourteen, Anthony bought an unbroke quarter horse filly for a high school project. This challenging horse started him on his path of educational growth in natural horsemanship. Anthony has ridden with and studied under a number of clinicians, including Mark Rashid, Bryan Neubert, and Bruce Logan. Anthony's true passion lies with starting young horses and developing them into well-rounded mounts. He also takes pride in helping create a soft feel for both horse and rider to create a more fulfilling relationship.

Prior to coming to The Pegasus Project, Anthony spent the last few years starting and developing young horses and teaching students of all ages a variety of horsemanship skills from groundwork to riding finished show horses. With his students, Anthony strives to instill greater understanding, feel, and thoughtfulness toward the horse.

Anthony will serve as Pegasus' head trainer, starting colts, restarting troubled horses, and softening and advancing horses already going under saddle. He will also work with us to pair adopters to horses that suit their skills and desired use. Anthony will be available to teach riding lessons, both English and Western. And finally, Anthony looks forward to training horses outside The Pegasus Project in the East Texas area. If you are in need of a talented and kind horse developer, feel free to contact us so that we can put you in contact with Anthony.

~CHILI~
Our Big-Hearted Gelding
Chili in all his glory

Meet Chili San Peppy! We absolutely adore this beautiful boy. Chili is a nineteen year old Quarter Horse who came to us in April of this year from long-time Pegasus supporters, Jerry & Sharon Bowden. Personal health issues required the Bowdens to make the difficult decision to give up Chili and their mare, Coco. The Bowdens wanted Chili and Coco to be protected forever and to be adopted to only the best of homes. Consequently, they turned to The Pegasus Project for help.

Upon arrival at the Pegasus ranch, both Chili and Coco were in excellent physical shape. They just needed a little tuning up. And Chili had to overcome his absolute obsession with Coco. Within the course of a couple of months, we managed to convince Chili that there was life beyond Coco! He has settled nicely into his herd and can now be ridden away from the group. Chili can be ridden alone or with other horses, and he tends to be the quietest horse on the trail. Coco was adopted last month, and now it's Chili's turn.

Chili is a real love bug and absolutely adores human attention. Well-mannered in all ways, Chili is easy to vet, trim and load. We anticipate that this dream of a horse will be in high demand once the word gets out. And don't let his age scare you off. He's healthy and sound.

We will be riding Chili at Ride for a Rescue on November 4th. Come on out and meet him!

A Note from Allyson

North Texas Giving Day
Preliminary Results Are In

On September 14th The Pegasus Project participated in the Communities Foundation of Texas' North Texas Giving Day. This was our third year to be a part of this fantastic event, and we raised just over $60,000! While we came up short of our $80,000 goal, we anticipated donor fatigue with all the hurricane disasters of August and September. We are pleased with our results, and we will use a portion of the funds raised to assist those effected by Hurricane Harvey.

$31,000 of the funds raised came from our challenge fund donors,** who, in advance of North Texas Giving Day, put up matching funds to encourage others to give. Knowing that their gift would be matched dollar-for-dollar was true incentive for the rest of our donors. On the day of the event, $24,000 was given through the NTGD website, while another $5700 was donated directly to Pegasus.

Pegasus is due to collect additional bonus funds paid by CFT. Bonus fund amounts are based upon a percentage of all the 137,638 gifts (totaling more than $39 million) made that day to the more than 2700 participating nonprofits. We are humbled by the generosity of donors for all of these deserving North Texas charities.

As excited as we are with our success on North Texas Giving Day, we must remind ourselves that this work never ends. We often go from one crisis to the next. One fundraiser ends, another begins. One horse gets adopted, another neglected horse comes through the gates. It's a never-ending cycle of pain, joy, hardship, success, heartbreak and triumph. With an annual budget of $300,000, we will utilize the NTGD funds in just over two months. Pegasus accomplishes great things, but at great cost.

For now, we are going to revel in our success and celebrate our fantastic supporters. If you were one of our NTGD donors, please give yourself a pat on the back. It is amazing what can be accomplished when people come together for a united purpose. When individuals support their passions and realize that EVERY dollar truly does count, remarkable things happen.

If you donated through the NTGD website, you would have immediately received a receipt via email. If you need to request that receipt, please click the following link, and CFT will resend it to you: NTGD RECEIPT

If you were a Challenge Fund Donor or if you made a donation directly to The Pegasus Project, you will be receiving your receipt via regular mail. We appreciate you all so very much!

BECOME A

PEGASUS PARTNER!

Did you know Pegasus relies entirely on private donations? Our regular monthly donors, known as  Pegasus Partners , are our most treasured assets. For as little as $10/month you can help provide us with a predictable source of income at a much lower cost than any other fundraising method.

While we are very  appreciative of  one-time donations, the monthly donations of our Pegasus Partners   allow us to plan ahead.

Our ability to save these helpless horses, donkeys and mules depends on YOUR donations!

We cannot do this without you! Please consider making a monthly donation so we may continue to rescue horses that have no future without us.
