Sandy Hunt and Spirit - Ride For A Rescue 2018
Annual Charity Trail Ride

It's time for the 8th Annual Pegasus Project "Ride for a Rescue," Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the beautiful Pegasus ranch in Murchison, Texas. We'd like to welcome all of our supporters, riders and non-riders alike, to come out and  enjoy the day.

Some of the riders - RFR 2018

For riders, bring  your horse and join us for a full day of horse fun! We will start with a play day in our newly covered 200' x 100' Pegasus arena! Be the first to see it! Next we will explore the ranch and a neighboring tree farm on a nice, easy-paced, guided ride through wooded trails and along gorgeous, open hay meadows. There will be a "poker run" for prizes, as well as fun horse contests and games for prizes. Non-riders are encouraged to come and enjoy the day with us and participate in the poker run and games. Following the ride, we will have a hot catered meal from  Torchy's Tacos  with complimentary drinks ( beer, wine, water and soda ). You'll also receive an event T-shirt and photographs of you and your horse.

Our Pegasus shop will be open for you to pick up the latest  Pegasus logo apparel. You don't want to miss out on our newest fall fashions!

Sandy Hunt and Spirit

On September 21st our dear friend, Sandra Hunt, passed away following her long and valiant battle with cancer. Sandy was a bright light for all who knew her. A more positive and loving person we never met. She had a killer sense of humor and was always game for any challenge. We loved Sandy, and Sandy loved Pegasus. She was the most reliable volunteer, donor and cheerleader for the Pegasus mission, and we shall miss her terribly. Our hearts ache over her departure.
Sandy is pictured in this article and the article above with her beloved horse, Spirit, from the Pegasus Ride for a Rescue 2016 and 2018. When Sandy rode with us in 2018, she was in the middle of her treatment. She never let her illness get in her way. She rode Spirit all the way to the end. We admire her more than we can ever express.

Sandy's memorial service will be on  Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 am at the  Kaufman County Cowboy Church,  5970 East State Hwy 243, Kaufman, Texas. Doors open at 10:30am.

Good bye, dearest Sandy. You are so loved. We dedicate Ride for the Rescue 2019 to your memory.

Also, a friend of Sandy's has organized a memorial practice day at East Fork Ranch Extreme Trail in Grand Saline, Texas. That event will take place on Sunday, October 20th. Each rider will donated a minimum of $20 with all proceeds going to benefit The Pegasus Project in memory of Sandy. We plan on being there and hope to see many of you there. Willie being ridden by Pegasus trainer, Anthony LaSpina

Last month The Pegasus Project accepted two horses relinquished by their loving owners. Due to health issues, the owners were no longer able to care for their beloved horses. Since they wanted to ensure the safety of both horses for the rest of their lives, they turned to Pegasus. The owners are long-time Pegasus supporters, and they generously donated tack, a horse trailer, and significant funds to help support our efforts on behalf of these wonderful horses. We are grateful for their assistance and are more than happy to provide the horses with a soft landing and transition them into their new lives.

One of these horses is Willie. Handsome Willie is a 14-year-old registered Quarter Horse gelding. His registered name is CO Colonel Willy. As you can see from his papers below, he has Peppy San Badger on the top and Colonel Freckles on the bottom. He's a stout, 15.1 hands tall, ranch-type horse with an even temperament. We are working on softening Willie up a little, but he has a solid foundation. He's confident, kind and non-spooky.

Willie will make the right person a very solid trail horse. The family who gave him to Pegasus have owned him since he was three years old. He has had excellent care his entire life and was a sound and reliable horse for them for eleven years.

If you are thinking about more than one horse, Willie's companion is Annie, a gorgeous Quarter Horse/Arabian cross. This 16 year old mare is every bit as nice as Willie, and they would love to be adopted together. We shall profile Annie next month, but you are welcome to contact us to discuss either of them.

If you are interested in adopting a Pegasus horse, read all about our adoption process here:  Adoption Process

A Note from Allyson
North Texas Giving Day
Preliminary Results Are In
On September 19th The Pegasus Project participated in the Communities Foundation of Texas' North Texas Giving Day. This was our fifth year to be a part of this fantastic event, and we raised just over $71,000! We are pleased with our results and are grateful for everyone who donated.

$44,000 of the funds raised came from our challenge fund donors,** who, in advance of North Texas Giving Day, put up matching funds to encourage others to give. Knowing that their gifts would be matched dollar-for-dollar was true incentive for the rest of our donors.

Pegasus is due to collect additional bonus funds paid by CFT. Bonus fund amounts are based upon a percentage of all the 169,464 gifts (totaling more than $50 million) made that day to the more than 2900 participating nonprofits. We are humbled by the generosity of donors for all of these deserving North Texas charities.

As excited as we are with our success on North Texas Giving Day, we must remind ourselves that this work never ends. We often go from one crisis to the next. One fundraiser ends, another begins. One horse gets adopted, another neglected horse comes through the gates. It's a never-ending cycle of pain, joy, hardship, success, heartbreak and triumph. With an annual budget exceeding $500,000, we will utilize the NTGD funds in about two months. Pegasus accomplishes great things, but at great cost.

For now, we are going to revel in our success and celebrate our fantastic supporters. If you were one of our NTGD donors, please give yourself a pat on the back. It is amazing what can be accomplished when people come together for a united purpose. When individuals support their passions and realize that EVERY dollar truly does count, remarkable things happen.

If you donated through the NTGD website, you would have immediately received a receipt via email. If you need to request that receipt, please click the following link, and CFT will resend it to you: NTGD RECEIPT

If you were a Challenge Fund Donor or if you made a donation directly to The Pegasus Project, you will be receiving your receipt via regular mail. We appreciate you all so very much!

Did you know Pegasus relies entirely on private donations? Our regular monthly donors, known as  Pegasus Partners , are our most treasured assets. For as little as $10/month you can help provide us with a predictable source of income at a much lower cost than any other fundraising method.

While we are very  appreciative of  one-time donations, the monthly donations of our Pegasus Partners   allow us to plan ahead.

Our ability to save these helpless horses, donkeys and mules depends on YOUR donations!

We cannot do this without you! Please consider making a monthly donation so we may continue to rescue horses that have no future without us.
