Low back pain can be frustrating for both patients and providers. There is typically no single cause for the pain that can be “fixed” with one simple approach to treatment. This can lead to divergence from evidence-based practices, unnecessary imaging studies and referrals, over-use of opioids, and dissatisfied patients who never get effective pain relief.
The Physician Alliance is part of the Michigan Back Collaborative (MIBAC), a newer statewide Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQI) supported by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) to help streamline care for low back pain.
To achieve these goals and better educate patients, an incentive is being provided for physician training. Training must be completed by Nov. 1, 2022. See details below on the incentive and training.
MIBAC PROVIDER INCENTIVE:
A $100 reward will be provided to each primary care physician or chiropractor who completes the training. Providers must meet the following requirements:
Primary care physicians
· Primary care physician treating adult patients
· Must be in a PGIP physician organization (The Physician Alliance)
Chiropractors
· Must be a BCBSM provider
· Did not complete training in 2021
Training MUST BE COMPLETED by Nov. 1, 2022.
MIBAC TRAINING:
MIBAC training is a one-time provider training that offers a framework for treating low back pain, treatment protocols, and a “toolbox” of resources. This training is evidence-based and will be CME/CE certified. The MIBAC online training includes a 90-100 minute required module for primary care physicians and chiropractors.
