Diabetes Prevention Programs offered locally in new year
As one of the leading causes of death in the United States, diabetes management and prevention is critical to improving the health of the population. More than 84 million Americans are at risk for prediabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association.

Education and lifestyle changes can help prevent the disease. Using the Diabetes Prevention Program in a clinical trial, the National Institutes of Health found that modest lifestyle changes in people with prediabetes led to weight loss of 5 to 7 percent in participants and reduction of the risk of type 2 diabetes by 58 percent in individuals at high risk.

The Physician Alliance supports participation in diabetes prevention classes to help at-risk patients improve their health. Multiple classes will begin in early 2019. A helpful resource guide lists upcoming local classes, as well as websites with additional class locations and information. Practices are encouraged to share this information with eligible patients.

Patient education materials related to diabetes prevention and management are also available on TPA's website.
Avoiding medical malpractice seminar video available

The seminar helped TPA members learn strategies for reducing risk of liability and implementing processes in their practice, re cognize and identify problems in the physician office that commonly lead to litigation, re view malpractice professional liability closed claims data for office practice, and more.

Providers required to enroll in Michigan Medicaid program

The deadline for providers to enroll in Michigan's Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS), the state's online Medicaid enrollment and billing system, is quickly approaching on Dec. 31, 2018.
To continue receiving payments from Medicaid for dates of service on or after Jan. 1, 2019, providers must be actively enrolled in CHAMPS or will no longer be paid by Medicaid health plans and dental health plans.
The Affordable Care Act and the 21st Century Cures Act require all providers who manage care of Medicaid beneficiaries to be screened and enrolled in the state Medicaid enrollment system. This helps protect beneficiaries by strengthening program integrity and care quality. Enrollment in this system does not require nor mandate providers in a managed care network to accept Fee-for-Service Medicaid beneficiaries. CHAMPS enrollment is used to screen providers participating in Medicaid.
For information on the enrollment process, visit the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services website. To enroll, click on Provider Enrollment section.
