Dr. Robert (Bob) Scherer 7/23/1931-3/26/2016

Dr. Scherer served as superintendent of Southern Kern USD for 12 years from 1980-1992. A man with a vision to enrich his community and inspire progress. Sincere condolences to family and friends. Goodbye Dr. Scherer, you will  surely be missed!

Congratulations to the SKUSD 2016 Nominees of the County Office of Education (COE) Classified School Employees of the Year (CSEY) Program. The Program highlights the contributions of classified school employees who support the education of California's public school students: 
Marissa Topliss, Para-Educator of Westpark Elementary School.
Sean Riley, IT Systems Technician of Rosamond High School.
Debbie Hesselton, Principal's Secretary of Westpark  Elementary School. 
Jessica Canales, Food Service Worker of Child Nutrition Department.  
Later this month the CDE will announce the Classified awardees. 
Construction Projects Update:           
Elementary School: Site preparation now in progress. Bruns Belmont Construction mobilization April 8th.  Groundbreaking April 20th.

Ascend Academy program is expanding ....
This summer 3 additional buildings will be placed to the west of the existing academy classrooms. A shade structure has also been approved by the School Board of Education to be constructed near the play field area.

Student Services Continue to Expand....
Recently two counselors were hired and have been primarily assigned to the elementary school sites. Students are now being scheduled for services. For more information contact school administration for referral criteria.

Did you know ... Westpark Elementary School is in the running to receive a California Department of Education GOLD RIBBON AWARD.  According to Principal Kathy Wilson, the validation team ( Kern County Superintendents Of Schools) visited and toured classrooms. They focused on intervention techniques, technology and  Professional Learning Community (PLC). Information of  Gold RibbonAward is expected in the next few weeks.

Congratulations to school board member Scott Starkey. The California School Board Association has announced Mr. Scott Starkey as the elected Delegate for region 12B. Mr. Starkey has served Southern Kern USD since December of 2007.  For more information about the duties and responsibilities of the CSBA visit their website.

This month 5th graders of   WES and RES will welcome a visit from the middle school. Tropico Band is scheduled to inspire students through a short performance to join programs in the Arts. School administration  will provide information on the various academic choices as well as speak of expectations of campus life.
