Community Room Dedication

On Thursday, November 7th, The Whitehall Apartments renamed its Community Room in honor of Harry “Skip” Dittmann for his commitment and service to the veteran residents living here. More than 25 guests, staff and residents joined us to celebrate with a short program, dedication and unveiling of a commemorative plaque, followed by lunch.

Skip is a U.S. Navy veteran, who attended the US Naval Academy and played football for the team until he graduated in 1967. After decades in the Navy, Skip officially retired from the Navy Reserves in 1995 as a Captain. Skip has given back to our veterans over the years, specifically at The Whitehall Apartments.

Skip was an original member of The Whitehall Apartments Advisory Committee, formed in 2018 to engage neighbors, partners, residents and staff in building a resilient, supportive community at The Whitehall Apartments. He has been a generous donor to the Resident Services for the veterans living at The Whitehall Apartments, donating time, funds and supplies to support these important programs.

Skip has also served on the Board of Directors for Mission First Housing Group, owner and operator of The Whitehall Apartments, since 1998 and as its Chair from 1999-2021.

Thank you to Skip for your support. The new Harry “Skip” Dittmann Community Room will host many future events for our residents and the community to support our veterans.

Volpe Enterprises Celebrates Our Veterans

On Veterans Day, Volpe Enterprises, Inc. visited The Whitehall Apartments to deliver baskets with cleaning and laundry supplies, toiletries and snacks. Employees also wrote personal notes or thanks and encouragement for our residents.

As part of the event and its employee volunteering initiative, the Volpe team created a video to share with its employees about The Whitehall Apartments, so they better understood the importance of the residence and its veteran supportive housing program. Click the image below to watch the video:

“Volpe Enterprises came to The Whitehall Apartments to go door to door with personalized baskets and handwritten cards honoring each Veteran on Veteran’s Day and thanking them for their service,” said Christian Hobson, Regional Director of Resident Services. “Overall, residents expressed their gratitude for the kind and generous gesture along with many others having a sense of pride and honor that extended beyond Veteran’s Day.”

Thank you to Volpe and its employees for their commitment to celebrating our nation’s heroes and providing them with items needed to help them thrive. We look forward to more opportunities to work together.
